Goodwill a Partner in Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority Jobs Plus Grant

$3 Million Awarded to Help Residents Receive Training to Find Employment


Congressman Bob Goodlatte opened his remarks at the press conference on Thursday, April 3rd at the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) with, "Isn't this a great day for the City of Roanoke?". These words were echoed by other dignitaries attending the event as Jane C. E. Vincent, Region III Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), announced the award of $3 million to the RRHA for the Jobs-Plus Pilot Program, of which Goodwill is a key partner. Click here to continue reading.


 


Goodwill Awards Ceremony to Highlight Success and Support

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys will host its Annual Awards Ceremony Tuesday, May 5th at the Vinton War Memorial. The Social will begin at 5:30pm and the Program at 6:30pm. The Awards Ceremony is the opportunity to honor program participants who have received services from Goodwill and are now working and continuing to excel. Awards that will be presented include Graduate and Achiever of the Year, as well as awards to honor those in the community that make Goodwill's success possible. Plans Underway for Two New Goodwill Stores
An Outlet and Traditional Goodwill Store Will Soon Open 

Soon customers and donors in Staunton and Charlottesville will enjoy new Goodwill stores.  A Goodwill Outlet is scheduled to open in Staunton early this summer and a new store in Charlottesville is now under construction for an early fall opening. These new stores not only mean customers will have a new place to shop for the high quality, low cost items they are accustomed to finding at Goodwill, but also additional revenues to fund Goodwill job training and employment programs. Click here to continue reading.



Goodwill and RCGA Apply for Seeds of Change Grant 
Your Votes are Needed to Advance in the Grant Evaluation Process

Goodwill and the Roanoke Community Garden Association (RCGA) have applied for the Seeds of Change Grant to expand the Growing Goodwill Community Garden. The first step to the grant process is the "Public Voting Phase." Beginning April 9th through April 27th, the public may vote for Goodwill and the RCGA once a day. The fifty organizations that receive the most votes will move to the next phase of the evaluation process. Click here to continue reading.

 



Goodwill Job Seeker Services Free and Open to the Public
Workshops, Job Fairs, Computer Classes and More Benefit Job Seekers

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys offers job seekers services to assist individuals in their job search efforts. Services include resume writing assistance, help with filing online applications, assistance with employer required assessments, referrals to appropriate agencies for support services, as well as computer classes, job clubs, and workshops. Click here to learn more about services available and for a listing of upcoming events.

Recently the Goodwill Brand has been on a roll. This year Goodwill was named the National Disability Nonprofit Brand of the Year by a Harris Poll EquiTrend® Study, an annual brand equity study.  In December of 2014, Forbes Magazine reported that Goodwill was ranked 11th nationally as one of the most inspiring companies. I think it's fair to say most people have a good feeling about Goodwill.  Perhaps we have an advantage by having "good" in our Brand. Click here to continue reading.
