Mayor Wild Joins Nation's Mayors in White House Meeting with President Obama

Westland, MI-  Mayor William R. Wild will visit the White House tomorrow, Friday January 23. He has been at the nation's capital this week joining more than 200 of the country's leading mayors at the 83rd Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM).

The gathering is convening at the Capital Hilton in Washington D.C this week.  This year's theme is Cities 3.0: The United States Conference of Mayors Jobs, Education & Workforce.

Wild has been meeting with Capitol Hill leaders and Administration officials all week. He is urging Congress to continue to work in a bipartisan fashion to spur job creation and economic growth in America's cities and metropolitan areas, many of which are still plagued with high unemployment.

"Innovation comes from cities," said Mayor Wild.  "Problems are solved at the city level. Cities are where people live, work and play. We need our President and leaders at the Federal level to empower municipalities to move our cities forward. Mayors are open source leaders, meaning we are pragmatic problem solvers who get things done."

Some of the topic discussions include, transformative change in the next economy, jobs education and workforce as well as technology.

Mayor Wild will be meeting with newly elected senator Gary peters and other members of the Michigan delegation throughout the week.
