Save the date for the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council's 2015 Annual General Meeting. 

We are pleased to welcome Ms. Jane Rooney, Canada's first Financial Literacy Leader as our guest speaker. In her first year as Financial Literacy Leader, Ms. Rooney gained tremendous insight into the needs of particular groups including seniors and 'future' seniors. In her presentation "Collaborating for Financial Literacy" find out what she has learned and how she has laid the building blocks for a national strategy that will help Canadians to become more financially literate.

ALBERTA DEMENTIA STRATEGY CONSULTATION SURVEY

 

The Government of Alberta is developing a 5-year Alberta Dementia Strategy and Action Plan which will address areas such as promotion of brain health, recognition of signs of dementia, and diagnosis through to end-of-life care. 

 

A survey has been developed to gather feedback on one of the strategic directions - Public Awareness and Education. The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and will close April 2, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. 

 

A larger survey that will address all aspect of the strategy is being developed and will be released in April. If you would like to be involved in the larger survey and additional consultation related to the strategy please send your contact information, including your first name, last name, and e-mail address to [email protected].

PIANO TO GIVE AWAY

Does your organization need a piano? We've been contacted by someone who wants to donate their stand-up piano. The piano is free, but moving it would be the responsibility of whoever is taking it. The piano is in good shape and might need tuning. Contact Andy Pollack at 780-819-9274.

The workshop trains health professionals, service providers and community agency staff to better support caregivers by showing how to identify caregivers early in their journey, support caregivers to adopt self-care practices and facilitate caregivers' access to programs/resources and referrals. The Edmonton Aboriginal Seniors Centre is reaching out to let the community know about their programming for seniors. Find out about activities such as the Grandparents Support Group, Crock Pot Cooking and Healthy Cooking, Nintendo Wii Fitness and Flower Beads Craft Corner in their newsletter.

Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC) offers a drop-in Ukulele Circle open to all on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month from 1 - 4 p.m. WSAC encourages outside members to drop in and participate this Monday, March 30! They also offer instrument jams on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. $2 drop-in fee.
