U.S. Senator Tim Kaine Holds Business Roundtable in Stafford County

   Senator Kaine invited members of the business community to discuss federal issues on April 8 at the offices of The Columbia Group at Quantico Corporate Center. Sequestration was the major focus of Kaine's discussion."..I will end Sequestration if I can..it's the perfect example of - 'if we don't do something good, let's do something stupid...'," said Kaine at the meeting. 

  Many defense contractors attended the meeting, including ManTech, Patricio Enterprises, Raython, and Cask, LLC as well as Board members Jack Cavalier and Laura Sellers. In addition to hearing about federal matters, Senator Kaine encourage participants to discuss topics that impact their businesses.  All who attended were pleased with the opportunity to meet and talk with Kaine.  Click here to read more about the event.

Small Business Resource Round-Up Next Week

 

     T he Economic Development Authority (EDA) is sponsoring quarterly meetings to support a variety of needs within Stafford's diverse business community. With the full support of the EDA board, Joel Griffin, EDA Chairman, recently announced that a Small Business Resource Round-Up will be held on Wednesday, April 29th.  The meeting is from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Stafford Government Center - 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
    Topics for the program will feature information tailored to small business needs, including marketing, business plan, finance, and peer networking.  The Regional Small Business Development Center and other regional partners will present a variety of informational topics and resources. Participating businesses will receive 40-page resource guide and a local business marketing package.  To register, click here.

Geo-Technology Associates Invests in Stafford

 

    Geo-Technology Associates, a professional engineering firm, recently opened their newest office at 100 LeWay Drive in south Stafford. The engineering firm opened a new office in Stafford due to increase in local contracts. Theyare providing more services for commercial, retail, and residential projects. Geo-Technology is the master developer for Embrey Mill, Woodstream and many other developments in the area. Headquartered in Abington, Maryland, Geo-Technology has 15 offices in the north-east and one other office in Virginia.

Small Business Spotlight: 

Latitude Yoga

     Latitude Yoga opened in the Aquia Park Shopping Center four months ago and, to date, it has provided instruction to 400+ in the community.  Owners Catie and Brent Fournier opened the studio with a clear mission: to improve the health of the community and enhance lives through yoga. "We take a light-hearted approach to yoga," said Catie. "We want to be a place in the community for people to feel comfortable, improve their health, and build relationships." Catie has been teaching yoga for over 10 years and oversees the studio operations  while her husband, Brent, manages the business side. 
   Latitude Yoga currently offers 33 classes every week and a variety of special events, like  Poses and Pints , a yoga class taught in the brewery at Adventure Brewing Co., and Parent's Night Out , a 3-hour event for kids on Saturday nights so parents can go out for a date night. Latitude Yoga also hosts events every other month that benefits a local non-profit. Earlier this month, they hosted Vino and Vinyasa , a wine and yoga event with a portion of the proceeds going to Empowerhouse, an organization that provides support to survivors of domestic violence.

       All aboard for great food! The Grille at Leeland Junction opened in January and already it's a local favorite. The Grille is American-casual with rotating specials and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also feature special events every month. David Smalley, Food Critic for the Free Lance Star, recently reviewed the Grille at Leeland Junction and said, "So let's get this out of the way quickly: This is my favorite restaurant since I began reviewing restaurants in the area.
