Radio & Television Interviews
Public Information Officer & Film Commissioner Adrian Rodriguez gave an interview to UTB Radio for Cyclovia So Padre. He will be giving multiple interviews next week for this upcoming event. He has also been coordinating interviews on Beach-N-Biker Fest and upcoming events.

Beach Access #4 Update
The construction project was awarded to Willis Development at the last council meeting. The contractor has started moving sand at the project site. Any and all damage will be mitigated on-site once the project is complete.

Beach-N-Biker Fest
The 12th annual Beach-N-Biker Fest roared into town on Friday April 17th with three days of non- stop fun! The Magic Valley Riders Motorcycle Club Inc. hosts this annual charity fundraiser each spring on our beautiful Island with live concerts, bike show, parade, poker run, biker games, great food, rockin' vendors and much more.

SegValley Tours
The SegValley Tours always makes it a point to stop by our Visitors Center to admire and take pictures of our beautiful sandcastle!

Gulf Boulevard Landscaping
We received half of the plants that will be planted in the islands along Gulf Boulevard last week. Planting began on Monday and the project should be complete by Friday. We will also take over watering the recently planted Sabal Palm trees. Crews are still efficiently working on the entrance medians.

Polaris Boat Ramp
The contractor began preparing the Triton Marine mattresses that will be placed at the end of the concrete pad where the existing rock has washed out. The contractor should install the 5 5'x8' mattresses next week.

Palm Tree Trimming Project
The bids for the annual palm tree trimming project were due last Friday. We will review bids and award the contract this week.

National Travel and Tourism Week
National Travel and Tourism Week is fast approaching. This year it will be held from May 2nd through the 10th and Rally Day will be May 5th. The City of South Padre Island will also be scheduling our Rally Day on May 5th and will be celebrating with a Hot Dog Picnic to welcome everyone outside of the Visitors Center.

Water Conservation
At South Padre Island we're no strangers to water, but we're also no strangers to harsh Texas droughts; which is why we need to remember to conserve water. Please don't leave sprinkler systems or water hoses running unattended for long periods of time and only water your yards and wash your vehicles when necessary. This is just one small step we can take to help reduce waste.

Congratulations to our April Yard of the Month winner, Furcron Realtors at 4800 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island, Texas! Furcron Realtors will receive a sign to place in their yard for this month honoring their accomplishment. Thank you Furcron Realtors for helping keep our Island beautiful!

South Padre Island Sand Crab Beach Run
The
Sand Crab Beach Run, happening April 25th, is run entirely on the sand and is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars! This event is very walker friendly and offers a 5K, 10K and Kids Mile Run. The course will follow blinking orange lights every 1/10th of a mile and runners are required to run with a flashlight or head lamp in order to see. After finishing the race, get fed while listening to some great music at Clayton's Beach Bar & Grill!

The First Annual
Cyclovia So Padre
will turn Padre Boulevard into a car-free and care-free environment for families and their pets to bike, run and play together. South Padre Island's first ever Cyclovia will stretch across Padre Boulevard, connecting Bahama Street to Capricorn Drive, on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 1pm - 6pm!
Cyclovia So Padre will feature two Reclovias "Recreation Stations" throughout our route that offer tons of free outdoor games and activities for kids of all ages! From yoga to tai chi & jiu jitsu classes,
Cyclovia So Padre will have something for
everyone. So get up, get out and come experience South Padre Island in a whole new way!

Fiesta Padre
Fiesta Padre is happening Memorial Day Weekend, kicking off on May 21st and continuing through May 24th! Plan your trip now and enjoy this new event! Watch the Alamo be built in sand by some of the best sculptors in the USA. Take advantage of the free sandcastle lessons for the whole family with Andy Hancock and the Sand Pearls. Enjoy great live music and wander through the Vendors Village. Fiesta Padre will be great fun for the whole family!

Recycling
Recyclable items can be taken to Old City Hall every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Items that can be recycled are:
- Newspaper
- Cardboard
- Office Paper
- Aluminum
- Tin
- Plastic
To offer a better recycling service please:
- Compact, crush or break down plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans or any other items that may be reduced in size. This helps us use the most amount of space in the bins.
- Remove any food, liquid, metal fasteners, adhesive materials or other items that may contaminate the whole load.

Animal Control
Friends of Animal Rescue operates the South Padre Island Recovery Center and Animal Shelter. The shelter is licensed by the State of Texas as an animal shelter and quarantine facility.
The shelter is located at 4908 Padre Blvd and open to the public Tuesday-Sunday from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. We do make arrangements to meet owners after hours if necessary in order to reunite pets with their families. Friends of Animal Rescue can be reached on their 24 hour hotline at 956-772-1171. Animals that are not claimed within 7-10 days are vetted (including Spay/Neuter) and adopted out to loving homes.

Incentive Policy
The South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation and the City of South Padre Island have approved an incentive policy in order to assist qualified new and existing businesses and to benefit the economic climate on the Island. Businesses can apply for property tax abatements as well as sales tax abatements for improvements that will contribute to the economy of South Padre Island. The City and the EDC will evaluate the applications to determine if they meet the established criteria for the programs.
