CARES 2014

Welcome to CARES Year 2014!

We are excited for your participation this year and want to continue our support. We appreciate your feedback from last year's case management model and hope it will continue to serve you well this year. You can expect your first contact from your assigned CARES person this month as they introduce themselves and begin to share important program details with you throughout the year.

Your CARES contact can:

  • register you for workshops
  • clarify track requirements with you
  • remind you of program deadlines
  • discuss your goals with you

For those participants who were assigned last year, you will be able to continue with the same CARES contact person. We want to acknowledge your relationship and success in working together and continue to build upon your career in child care from that foundation.

Action on Your Part:

When your CARES person contacts you, please let them know your preferred contact method (phone, email, or mail) so that they know you are getting the important messages throughout the year.
CARES Moving Forward

For those of you working in privately funded child care programs, this will be the last year that the CARES program will offer stipends. Though we will no longer be offering a stipend, there are other programs available to offer support as you continue your professional growth.  We know this change will take some time to process so we want to inform you early. We also want to make sure the transition for you to obtain assistance from other sources is as smooth as it can be. Please see the links under Additional Support for these programs. Although these programs offer service to you in different ways (scholarships, incentives, stipends, modeling, site visits, reflective discussions, and program materials) the overall goals remain to improve quality in child care and further the education of those caring for children.

Child Action, Inc. will be mailing a letter in August to the programs impacted by this change and include the program brochures for you to plan your next steps.

Next CARES Update

Our next CARES update will be in December to:

  • remind you of the February 13, 2015 deadline
  • prepare you for organizing your documents
  • remind you of the deadline to apply for your permits
Upcoming Events

New Cohorts are starting in the fall in Sacramento, Placer, Yuba, and San Diego for the CSUS Bachelor of Arts in Child Development - Early Development and Care in Education  degree completion program.

This program is the product of a long-time collaboration between Sacramento State's College of Education (where the main campus Child Development program is housed), College of Continuing Education, and local child-care and education organizations.  Cohorts provide the framework and support needed to finish your Bachelors degree within a specific timeframe with evening and weekend classes and satellite classroom locations. Follow the link for more information www.cce.csus.edu/edce.

CSUS will be offering workshops on Child Development Permit application process this fall.
