Winter is upon us and some of us enjoy the snow and cold, but for many it can be a dangerous time of year.

Winter also means flu season. It is never too late to get vaccinated. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu activity most commonly peaks in the U.S. between December and February. The CDC urges you to take actions to protect yourself and others from influenza (the flu).

A little cold weather never prevents Gramatan Village members from enjoying our great programs. Earlier this month our members visited The Museum of the City of New York for a docent led tour.
In addition to exploring the permanent collection our members viewed the exhibit, Mac Conner: A New York Life. The exhibition presented Conner's hand-painted illustrations for advertising campaigns and women's magazines such as Redbook and McCall's. These illustrations were made in the years following World War II when commercial artists helped to redefine American style and culture.
Our members were inspired by the fact that Mac Conner is now 101 years of age and so pleased with this exhibit!

Closer to home, Gramatan Village members attended a cooking class presented by Bronxville's own Nancy Contessa. Held in a private home our members learned how to prepare simple meals for one or two. Nancy's passion for cooking was evident as she prepared Chicken Francaise, Frittatas, Meatloaf and Sausage and Swiss Chard Soup. We enjoyed delicious samples!
