Earthing . . .
A Class to Connect With the Earth and Each Other!
This class will meet 2 Wednesdays per month @ 6 PM to approximately 7:30 PM in Dahinda at the Smiling Frog Farm. It is a beautiful, pastoral & peaceful setting. The class will be led by Julie Haugland & Trisha Hurst with occasional guest leaders. Cost is $7.00 per person per class. Class will meet this Wednesday, June 25. Additional Wednesday sessions will be scheduled on July 9, July 23, August 13 and August 27. We will be walking, sitting, laying on the grass. There will be a short introduction, light stretching exercises, a walking meditation and guided meditation. Grounding will be explained and experienced.

Take some time for yourself to rejuvenate, restore
and connect in a quiet, yet profound manner. You
might just be amazed at how healing earthing can be.

Your body needs this. Your soul needs this.

In the event of rain, no worries, we will still hold the class.
We will conduct it from the front porch with occasional ventures
out into the raindrops. Dress appropriately for the weather!

What is Earthing or Grounding?

Earthing is quite simply the act of touching your skin to the Earth to take advantage of the never ending supply of negative ions on the Earth's surface. The moment your skin makes contact with the Earth your body absorbs trillions of these negative ions and they act as a nutrient to the body. A SIMPLE, PROFOUND & EASY CONCEPT!

Why Should We Care About Earthing?

Think about your regular day. You wake up, walk around on your insulated floor, put on your insulated shoes, drive to work in your insulated car, sit at your desk, drive home, watch TV, go to bed. For most people your skin rarely makes contact with the Earth. This is very different from our evolutionary ancestors who spent more time outside working and touching the Earth on a daily basis. Now think about how great it feels when you take off your shoes and walk on the grass. How about walking barefoot along a beach? What about how great it feels after a day of gardening, camping, swimming in the sea or paddling in a stream? There is something intuitive and instinctive about our connection with the earth that when embraced it pays us back in dividends. It is also worth noting that both Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine have both been using Earthing for thousands of years. Have you ever noticed that you sleep better on a beach vacation after walking in the sand or being in the ocean? The sand and ocean water and both naturally conductive materials and both help ground the body and remove excess positive electrons. For the same basic reason that we ground electrical outlets to avoid the build up of excess positive charge, our bodies need the same ground effect.

How it Works?
The voltage of the s urface of the earth is zero. The body is made up of over 70% water along with lots of other minerals making your body highly conductive. When you make contact with the earth your body is Grounded or Earthed and becomes a zero voltage. Our super conductivity can also work against us by absorbing Electro Magnetic Fields from all our electrical appliances and mobile phones. Earthing helps to neutralize these Electro Magnetic Fields

According to emerging research, Earthing can be beneficial in:

* Reducing inflammation by defusing excess positive electrons
* Reducing chronic pain
* Improving Sleep
* Increasing Energy
* Lowering stress and promoting calmness by reducing stress hormones.
* Normalizing biological rhythms including circadian rhythms
* Improving blood pressure and blood flow
* Relieving muscle tension and headache
* Lessens menstrual and female hormone symptoms
* Speeds healing- used in some places to prevent bed sores
* Can eliminate jet lag
* Protecting the body from EMFs
* Shortens recovery time from injury or athletic activity
* Reducing or eliminating snoring
* Helping support adrenal health
Native Americans honored the connection to the Earth.
Luther Standing Bear, a writer, educator and tribal
leader of the Lakota Sioux, summed it up:

"The old people came literally to love the soil.
They sat on the ground with the feeling of being
close to a mothering power. It was good for the skin
to touch the Earth, and the old people liked to
remove their moccasins and walk with their bare
feet on the sacred Earth. The soil was soothing,
strengthening, cleansing and healing."

DIRECTIONS: Take I-74 east towards Peoria. Take ramp at Exit 54 (Lewistown), turn left at top of ramp. Turn right onto US Hwy 150 at stop sign. Take US Hwy 150 east 4.9 miles to Co Hwy 12 and turn left. (There are signs at that corner for Trillium Dell, Camp Akita & Oak Run). Take Co Hwy 12 North 2.9 miles, over railroad tracks, thru valley, up a curve thru timber and make a right turn at the top (before you are even out of the curve) onto 1550N. There is an alpaca farm, Fancy Creek Alpacas at the corner. Continue down 1550N 1.7 miles to small blue house with black shutters! It's a 20-30 minute trip depending on your speed.

PREPARATION:  To further enhance the experience, wear clothes of natural fabric rather than synthetics. Wear shoes that slip on and off easily without socks, but that you can walk through pastures in! Leather soles or moccasins are the best. If you are feeling brave you can go barefoot. This is an outside class, so please dress appropriately for the weather. If you need sunscreen and/or bug spray, please bring.

PARTICIPATION:  Call Julie and let her know if you are interested in the class. If you cannot do it on a Wednesday, let us know what might work. Since this is a new class, we will try to plan it when people are available! You can also e-mail Julie at vintagestastingroom@gmail.com.
