Christine Porter and Jenny Jaessing become World Champions!

Cold temperatures, rainy skies, big breeze, and steam coming off the lake greeted sailors as they arrived at Delavan Lake Yacht club on Saturday morning. With the Race Committee realizing the less than ideal conditions, sailors voted to sail rather than take the day off and headed out onto the water. With a windward mark out of sight at the beginning of race 1, sailors continued up the lake and found their way around the course. The first race was won by Christine Porter with crew Jenny Jaessing and third DJ Jaessing. The fleet went in for lunch and got back onto the water with stronger winds hitting the water in the afternoon. Race 2 was started in 18 mph breeze with gusts to 22 mph (still with rain and 30-40 degree temperatures). In the afternoon the girl power was kept alive with Barbie Keck winning race 2.

With one more race scheduled for the day the breeze stayed up. The last race of the day was won by the B-117 again with fill in skipper David Porter.

A night full of fish boil festivities including dancing to a band, fflip cup, and a visiting bachelorette party kept the sailors entertained. Going into day 2 Matt Prange with crew Katie Bruder was leading the regatta by 1 point with Christine Porter close behind.

Sunday greeted the sailors with a little less wind and slightly warmer temperatures. The fleet did two morning races. The first race was a battle between Joe Schaub and Elizabeth Bernstein on the T-17 and Christine and Jenny on the B-117. After flipping leads a few times, Christine took the bullet with Schaub finishing close behind. The wind built and most of the fleets grabbed their thirds for the last race of the regatta. Several capsizes occurred in the last race of the regatta. The last race was won by Barbie Keck.

Thanks to Delavan for throwing an excellent event and keeping us motivated in less than ideal conditions. Full results are posted below.

MISSING- Original Emma Rosenheimer Memorial Trophy
Calling all c scow sailors! We are looking for the original Emma Rosenheimer Memorial Trophy awarded for race 5 of the national championship. This trophy was a limited edition painting with hand colored etched sailboats. This trophy was lost before 2008 nationals and we need help in recovering it. Any assistance in finding this trophy would be appreciated. Please check your houses and yacht clubs and help us track down this beautiful trophy. We believe the trophy was misplaced around 2007.
