2014 Rey of Hope  Gala and

Amazin' Reys Scholarship Dinner Highlights
(Back) Br. Tom Sweeney, SDB, Jean-Marie and Raul Fernandez, Marcia and John Shooshan, Barbara Grazzini, Marcia Abbo.
(Front) Diyonte Johnson ('17), Bridget Moreira ('15), Nancy Salmeron ('15), Josue Iglesias ('16), Autumnreign Bush ('17).

The students present were met with cheers and a standing ovation, as guests at the 2014 Rey of Hope Gala and Amazin' Reys Scholarship Dinner listened to how hard the students are working for their own education so they can build a brighter future for themselves and their families. Spontaneous applause erupted as the news that EVERY graduate of Don Bosco Cristo Rey in the school's brief history has been accepted into college was shared with all. The proceeds from the Gala benefit DBCR's Amazin' Reys Scholarship Program which helps students to reach the finish line by combining with what they earn through their work study jobs to cover the total cost of their education. DBCR presented five named scholarships at the Gala, much to the students' surprise: The Barbara Grazzini Scholarship, The Fernandez Foundation Scholarship, the Salesian Scholarship, the Marcia & Bobby Abbo St. John Bosco Scholarship, and The Shooshan Family Fund Scholarship.

Special thanks to the Jones Day Law Firm for hosting the event and sharing their exceptional views of the Capitol.

DBCR student representatives accept a spontaneous standing ovation after the 2014 Amazin' Reys Scholarship Program video highlighted their many accomplishments and future goals.

"Happy" to kick off the musical portion of the evening, Fr. Steve joins the band for a popular Pharrell Williams tune.

Diyonte Johnson ('17) and Bridget Moreira ('15) welcome A. Scott Bolden, one of the evening's honorees.
