Santa and Service
Celebrating Christmas at DBCR
Just before Christmas break, Santa paid a visit to our annual Family Christmas Potluck Dinner, delighting the children, parents, students, and staff who had gathered for this special DBCR tradition organized by the Student Government Association. It capped off a week of fun anticipating Christmas, including Youth Ministry's ice skating outing.

On Christmas Day, 12 of our students volunteered as Santa's elves to serve dinner to those in need at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, spreading Christmas cheer and the message of God's love to all.
Meet our Newest Corporate Clients
As we kick off 2015, we are thrilled to introduce our newest partners with the Corporate Work Study Program - Columbia Country Club and CrossCountry Consulting.  We also are excited to welcome back USAID, a returning partner employing a full job team of four students.
Alumni News
On DBCR's first day back from Christmas break, Mauricio Castro ('11) presented his insights along with Marshelle Little ('14), Paola Bonilla ('14), Pamela Cabrera ('11) and Justine Akinlame ('11) who advised current students on how to prepare, survive and THRIVE in college.
It has been an exciting couple of weeks as alumni visited DBCR while they enjoyed their semester breaks. Both the annual Alumni Panel and the Class of 2014 Winter Reunion were joyful opportunities to welcome our recent grads back to the community, to reconnect and to celebrate their hard work since their days at DBCR.
DBCR's most recent grads gathered to swap stories of their first semester in college, tour the new wing of the school, and reminisce over the great photos in their yearbooks.
Go Forth! (But not alone)
Members of the Class of 2015 have returned from the annual senior retreat and were overheard asking, "Why couldn't it be longer?"  The weekend retreat was a welcome look back on their four-year journey as DBCR students with time to reflect on the bonds they have formed as a community.  In true Salesian spirit, the retreat was filled with faith, family, future, and fun!  These four hallmarks of the DBCR experience, as several alumni reminded the seniors, don't have to end at graduation.
Financial Night Tackles FAFSA
Nathaniel Benham of Marymount University, Stephen Castaneda of Coppin State University, and DBCR Board Member Rich Dumais lend a hand with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at Financial Aid Night.
Special thanks to the many wonderful volunteers who made College Counseling's recent Financial Aid Night for seniors, parents and alumni a tremendous success.  Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is typically an extremely daunting task in the college application process, but representatives from Brown Advisory, College Advantage, Coppin State University, Ernst & Young LLP, Marymount University, the University of Virginia and Visitation Prep lent their expertise to assist our students and families in successfully completing their FAFSA applications.  It was a great relief for the seniors to be able to check off this most critical step on the road to receiving financial aid packages and making their dreams of college possible.  Held in conjunction with the Class of 2014 reunion, alumni also benefited from these great financial aid resources on campus and were able to stop in and renew their FAFSA applications for their second year.
Salesian Youth Movement Launched
Calling all recent alumni of Salesian high schools and youth programs, the Salesian Youth Movement has officially launched the DC chapter and gathered for its first meeting on December 20 at DBCR.  A movement "of young people, for young people", the group invites young adults to reconnect with the Salesian spirituality with which their high school days were infused, spend time in fellowship, and support each other's desire to be formed as "good Christians and honest citizens".  Contributing to its great success, the inaugural meeting was attended by members of each of DBCR's four graduating classes, graduates of other Salesian programs visiting DC, and former DBCR Director of Youth Ministry, Fr. Abraham Feliciano, SDB!
