The School of Rock / Bedford staff is excited to announce the themes for our signature Rock Performance Program for the Spring 2015 season! With FOUR different show themes, we have the right program to get any kid rocking on a local stage this spring. We are now enrolling students ages 7-18 on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals!!!

In our ROCK PERFORMANCE PROGRAM, students get the chance to take a weekly 45-minute private lesson with a rock star on our staff, attend a weekly group rehearsal session with other young musicians, and get ready to perform two season-ending shows! Our program gives kids the chance to rock on stage and in life.

ABOUTThe Doors are an American rock band formed in 1965 by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Krieger. Although their active career only lasted less than a decade, The Doors have produced 20 gold, 14 platinum, and 5 multi-platinum releases in the U.S. alone. Their signature keyboard and bass sound, dynamic drumming, passionate vocals, and unique approach to the electric guitar spawned a legacy of rock 'n roll that has persisted in inspiring countless musicians to this day.

With huge hits like "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You", "Break on Through (To The Other Side)", "Touch Me", "Peace Frog" and "Riders On The Storm", The Doors are a staple to any burgeoning rock and roll student.

This show is great for all ability levels. Be prepared for intricately melodic keyboard lines, blues rock guitar riffs and solos, and iconic vocal parts. For drummers, this show will stretch you to new stylistic limits through songs that encompass blues, rock, jazz, and shuffle beats.

Rehearses Wednesday nights starting February 11th, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Performs in early June.

ABOUT: Formed in 1968, Rush's most popular and enduring line-up consists of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist and backing vocalist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. Though their musical style has changed several times over the years, Rush is largely considered one of the most influential progressive rock bands of all time, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

With over 20 albums under their belt, Rush has left a lasting mark on the music world and has a ton of material for students to delve into. The list includes massive songs like "Tom Sawyer", "Spirit of Radio", "Limelight", "Closer to the Heart", "Subdivisions", and the rock epic "2112".

This show will showcase the variety of Rush's career, and is not to be taken lightly! With open song forms and uses of multiple time signatures, these songs will bring out a whole new level of musical know-how in students. Rockers must be prepared to tackle in-depth material that will challenge both their theory and playing ability on any instrument.

Rehearses Thursday nights starting February 12th, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Performs in early June.

ABOUT:
Green Day exploded into the mainstream with their 1994 album, "Dookie". Featuring the hit songs "Basket Case""Longview", and "When I Come Around", Green Day's first major label album solidified that they were here to stay. The band has since won five Grammy awards and been nominated for several Tony Awards for their Broadway show "American Idiot". Known for raucous, fun songs with a driving rhythm section and powerful chords and vocals, you can't not have fun playing Green Day's catalogue!

Despite releasing only three full-length albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era. After signing to DGC Records, Nirvana found unexpected success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from their album Nevermind (1991). Nirvana's sudden success widely popularized alternative rock as a whole, and led to them being regarded as the "flagship band" of Generation X.

This show has something that can challenge any musician. Both of these trios have an abundance of power chord guitar lines that are accessible to newer players while still having enough nuance and flair to challenge even the most skilled guitarist. Vocalists, get ready to dive into the stylistic aspects of your singing to bring these legendary lyrics to life. Drummers and bassists beware! Complex and well-written basslines and drum parts round out the rhythm section, with intentional, well-placed fills on both instruments. Think these songs are easy? Guess again!

Rehearses Saturday afternoons starting February 14th, 2015 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM. Performs in early June.
