Competition culls creativity from mind-bending challenges

Seventy-five teams from schools in the Douglas County School District (DCSD) competed against their peers at the South Metro Regional Destination Imagination Tournament on March 14 at Englewood High School. Read more

Student-designed app wins Verizon challenge

Cimarron Middle School has been named the Best in the State of Colorado in the 2015 Verizon Innovative App Challenge.

A group of seventh-grade students developed an app called "Destination Education." The app is designed to help students investigate and retain math and science concepts.

Plum Creek Academy in Highlands Ranch, Colorado
Mary Page is the epitome of lifelong learning, and it was through the process of learning that she found her true calling as an educator, and role as principal of Plum Creek Academy.

Page received her undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance and studied French Art Song in Paris, France at La Conservatoire Superieur the summer after her college graduation. She relished performing and sought opportunities to be a soloist. Some of her teachers recognized she had additional potential, and placed her in roles where she found herself creating choreography or conducting rehearsals...contrary to her preference of performing. Teachers organize Create Something Great as a place to learn and grow together

Create Something Great (CSG) began last year with a simple idea from a group of teachers. They wanted to create a network of peers within the Douglas County School District (DCSD) to share innovative practices.

This summer, the Think Tank they created will support more than 500 Douglas County teachers during a four-day event. Read more

USA Today Chaparral High School wrestler Dane Drimmer is without a doubt one of the most exciting wrestlers in the state to watch: he's a two-time Regional champion, two-time state placer, been named All-American, is undefeated in Continental League duels - and has done it all without being able to see.

Parents and community members invited to collaborate in development of Parent and Student Satisfaction World Class targets

 

This spring, two new World Class targets (Parent Satisfaction and Student Satisfaction) are being developed and piloted with a small group of teachers. The Personalized Learning department is seeking interested parents and community members to assist with item validation for the development and piloting of these targets. We will be meeting April 2 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Wilcox building, 620 Wilcox St. Castle Rock, CO 80104. Read more

 


 

Career Connect brings insight to high school students

 

Career Connect logo

Registration is now open for Career Connect, an after-school career exploration program. Sessions are held weeknights from April 6-30 and feature professionals showcasing their industries to high school students.

The employer-led sessions can accommodate between 10-25 students per session, which include a variety of professions, including construction management, forensic science and veterinary medicine. Follow this link for more information.

There's a respiratory illness known as RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) hitting hard this time of year.
