CCS Students Take the Gold at TechOlympics
Six CCS students participated in the 2015 TechOlympics, Cincinnati's premiere high school technology expo and competition. The team consisted of
Isaac Smearsoll, Micah Smearsoll, Jake Thomas, Spencer Moore, Sam Knueven, and
Bryan Synder, as well as coaches,
Mrs. Gina Smearsoll and
Mr. Green.
In the fields of information technology
(including computer coding, cyber security, 3-D printing, digital design, and more), the students listened to keynote speakers, visited breakout sessions, and participated in competitions. They also made connections through resumes, networking, and gained interviewing skills.
As a first-year team, they had no expectations to win events or place as a team. but among the 44 teams and 500+ students, the CCS team ended up coming in
9th place overall, and had two first-place gold medal winners!
- Junior, Micah Smearsoll, won first place in the 3D Modeling Competition, where his challenge was to design an original watch on Google Sketch-Up in 45 minutes. Not only that, he received a perfect score from the judges!
- Sophomore, Spencer Moore, won first place in the Xtreme Design Competition, in which his challenge was to create a visual image to be used as the logo for next year's event ("accelerate" theme). Spencer's roller coaster design will now be modified and used for next year's event, on everything from banners to advertising to websites!
- Although it was not a formal competition, freshman, Bryan Snyder, was also recognized for winning the Gaming Competition held Saturday evening.

CCS Band Students Stand Out at NKU Event
The following students represented CCS as members of the Tr-State Honor Band, hosted at NKU in January.
Alyssa Anneken played piccolo and flute.
Amber Helson played trumpet.
Dominic McLendon played clarinet, and
Mathew Schmitz played trombone.
The Tri-State Band Symposium event, hosted by Dr. Brant Karrick, Director of Bands at NKU, featured two days of great band teaching by guest conductors Dr. Joseph Parisi (University of Missouri-KC) and Mr. Todd Moody (Kentucky). The event concluded with a great concert in NKU's Greaves Concert Hall on Saturday, January 24th. Congratulations to all of the students involved!

Girls' Basketball Team Wins League Championship
Special congratulations to the 5th and 6th grade girls' basketball team, who won their league championship game 28 to 17! This was a great finish to a wonderful basketball season, making their overall year record this year 23 to 1!

Student's Speech Earns Patriotic Honor
For the last few years, through Mrs. Ann Schroeder's Speech class, CCS students have participated in
The VFW Voice of Democracy Contest. The competition provides students in 9th-12th grades the opportunity to explore democratic ideals and principles through audio essays.
This year's Local Level Award Winner through Veteran's of Foreign Affairs Post/Auxiliary 1069 is Senior,
Hannah Smith!
They will present their award to Hannah during the Junior/Senior High Campus assembly on Wednesday, April 7th, where she will read her speech to the student body. Congratulations, Hannah!

. Mrs. Schroeder's current Speech class is already working on these speeches, with the deadline of November 1st. Mrs. Schroeder would like to make it clear that students do not have to take her class to submit an essay for consideration. And,

Elementary Students Are Not Speechless
This year's ACSI District Elementary Speech Meet was held at CHCA on Saturday, March 7th. CCS had 54 Elementary students participating in the meet.
There were 40 superior and 14 excellent ratings given. Three students received PERFECT scores ( 50-50-50) from their 3 judges:
5th graders, Caden Glenn and Kaylene Lunt, and 1st grader, Leah Hardy. A job well done!

CCS Math Students Score Big
Each year, ACSI holds a Math Olympics by mail, in the categories of Math Reasoning and Math Computation. CCS students scored big!

Senior Signs for Olivet
Congratulations to Senior,
Logan Katsetos, who signed to continue his football career with Olivet Nazarene University! As an outstanding wide receiver for the Cougars, Logan earned Second-Team All Miami Valley Conference his junior year and fought through injury his senior year to still collect 383 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns - 7th best in the MVC!
Logan will major in Physical Therapy at ONU.

Bowling Team Serves with Happy Hearts
Coach Peters made sure the students gave back to the community after their season was over.
The bowling team helped out at the Serve City Homeless Shelter in Hamilton in February. Special thanks to Mrs. Hauer for organizing the outing!

"Peter Pan" Reviews Fly High
CCS Theatre students' performances of Peter Pan "flew" above and beyond! Several Aronoff staff members were quoted, "It's hard to believe it is a high school performance!" Even the makeup and costumes were said to be "Broadway quality," by the Aronoff staff.

Senior Signs for Gardner-Webb
Congratulations to Senior,
Keely Brown, who signed to play college soccer for Gardner-Webb University!
As goalie, Keely helped the Lady Cougars soccer team post an 11-6-2 record this past season, while earning First-Team all Miami Valley Conference with a .870% in goal. Keely is currently considering her study options at Gardner-Webb.

2nd Grade Rewarded for Hard Work
CCS 2nd grade students were awarded a pizza party for bringing in the most money during the Elementary Campus Coin Drive, held during the Annual Library Book Fair in December.
The money raised in the Coin Drive was used to purchase books for The Little Free Library at the Fairfield Food Pantry. Scholastic also matched the amount for their One For Books Program.
Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. Cole are very proud of their students and their giving hearts!

CCS Students' Unique Lab Opportunity
Mrs. Stone's A&P (Anatomy and Physiology) class
was chosen as one of 20 Tri-State schools to participate in the "
Beacon Orthopedics Bio-Skills Lab Experience" at their cadaver lab.
After an hour lecture/discussion by hand specialist Dr. Foad, they proceeded to the lab where students participated in an upper extremity cadaver dissection under the supervision of Dr. Foad, Physician Assistant Brittany, and Surgical Tech, Shawn. Students spent about 45 minutes at each of three tables, assisting in the dissection and practicing suturing techniques.

Fifth Graders Serve Their Community
In February, Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Entwisle took their 5th graders to the TCA (Tri-County Assembly) Food Pantry, called "Choice Pantry."
The students helped sort and package assorted foods and toiletries to help meet the needs of their Butler County community.
Galatians 5:13 says, "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."

VARSITY SWIMMING
First Team MVC: Payton Keiner (Sophomore) Payton had two 4th place finishes in the Division II State Swimming Championships in Canton, one in the 200 IM (2:07.11), and the other in the 100 Backstroke (56.62). Out of more than 50 schools represented at the state meet, Payton's 4th place finishes landed the Lady Cougars in a tie for sixteenth place with Wyoming High School.
District qualifiers who competed at Miami University on February 20th:
- 200 yard medley relay (Payton Keiner, Kaitlyn Butts, Carley Phillips and Makenna Diatte) seeded 24th and placed 18th, dropping nearly 4 seconds from their qualifying time at sectionals a week before. The 200 yard free relay (Payton, Kaitlyn, Laura Kindell and Carley) finished in 13th place, dropping 3+ seconds from their seed time.
- Carley, a sophomore, qualified in the 50 and 100 yard free events, swimming both in season best times and finishing in 24th and 28th, respectively. Payton, a sophomore, qualified in two individual events - in the 200 IM finished in 4th, and in the 200 backstroke, finished in the 2nd place runner-up spot.
VARSITY BOYS' BASKETBALL
The team won 2014-2015 Miami Valley Conference Gray Division, which is the first ever Boys' Varsity Basketball conference championship for Cincinnati Christian Schools! The
team won its first two games in the Ohio High School Boy's Basketball Tournament but lost in the Sectional Finals to Aiken. They completed the season 17-8 (one game shy of the school's record for the most wins in a season!).

Spanish 5 Students' Fiesta
Senora Gant's Spanish 5 class celebrated the Dominican culture with food they made that represents the area. The dishes included:
Cassava bread & Plantain chips, Dominican spaghetti, moro-loco (like Dominican chipotle), pastel chocolate con dulce de leche, flan, and empanadas/picadillos,
When this class meets, they do not speak English. So, their celebration taking place in a CCS conference room is the only clue that they weren't actually in Santo Domingo! Delicioso!

Lady Cougar Bowlers "Strike"
Madison Brockman, a junior, became the first lady bowler to bowl over 200 in a game in MVC program history! She did it in three different matches this season, averaging 192 for the week. Madison also became the first lady bowler to bowl a 400 series in a match.
Kaylay Harris, a sophomore, averaged 171 for a week this season, and became the second lady to bowl over a 200, with a personal-best 202 game! She also recorded a match score of 390 in a match for the Lady Cougars.

 Elementary Cub Scouts Receive "Arrow of Light" Award
Zachary Beltz, Trevor Allen, Eddie Luckey, Tyler Rouse, Tyler Daniels and Braden Moore have each earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light, which is the highest achievement to be earned in Cub Scouts. It is the equivalent of the Eagle in Boy Scouts.
Each boy also earned a Super Achiever, which recognizes those scouts who earned all 20 activity pin requirements for their rank. In addition to earning his Arrow of Light and Super Achiever, Zachary Beltz was presented with a special award as during his time in Cub Scouts; he earned all 53 Sports and Academic belt loops and pins for this program.
Their parents are so excited and proud of them, and wish them the best of luck as four of the six boys continue on to Boy Scouts.

5th Graders Celebrate
On January 22nd, Mrs. Rice's 5th grade class fed their whimsical side and celebrated National Polka Dot Day!
They did polka dot-themed activities within the entire day, such as an activity with a polka dotted glove which they had to wear to discover mystery items from a polka dotted basket, dresse
d in polka dotted clothes, and were
served handmade polka dotted water bottles, with polka dotted straws, and polka dotted snacks - in waitress style to them all. Very fun!
