The Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association (ACVA) will hold their 2014 Annual Membership Meeting, titled "Extraordinary Alexandria 2.0" (Mon. 9/29, 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Hilton Old Town, registration required).  

 

The third community meeting for the Eisenhower West Small Area Plan will feature a recap of comments/feedback from the last community meeting and a small group exercise focused on locating centers and connections (Mon. 9/29 from 7:00 -9:00 PM, Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library, 5005 Duke St, agenda). 

 

The Greater Washington Board of Trade, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region will host a special emergency preparedness briefing that will provide attendees with better understanding of the implications for Greater Washington and the preparedness steps necessary for our region. Topics to be addressed include Overall Threat Assessment, Regional Preparedness Overview, Preparedness Guidelines, Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP), Personal Preparedness Guidelines and Overview of Legal Implications (Tues. 9/30, 8:00 AM, The Mayflower Hotel, Grand Ballroom, registration required ).

 

As part of the update to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Planand the development of Complete Streets Guidelines, the City has developed an online survey and interactive map to allow users to identify where they would like to see pedestrian and bicycle improvements and locations for future Capital Bikeshare stations.  The survey and map are available in English and Spanish and will be available for input through early October 2014. The first public meeting will be held this week to introduce the project, identify key goals and needs of the pedestrian and bicycle networks (Tues. 9/30, 7:00 PM, Minnie Howard Campus, Cafeteria, 3801 W. Braddock Rd).

 

ACT for Alexandria's IMPACT 2014 event, which convenes board, business, community and nonprofit leaders to discuss innovations in philanthropy and strategies for building the capacity of nonprofit organizations will feature a keynote from Patty Stonesifer, President & CEO of Martha's Table  (Weds. 10/1, 8:30 AM -12:30 PM, First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King St., registration required).

 

Dominion Virginia Powerwill host an informational open housefor the community to learn more about the proposed 230 kV underground transmission line project between Glebe and the Potomac River substations (Weds. 10/1, 5:00 - 8:00 PM, Mt. Vernon Community School, Commonwealth Ave).

 

The Board of Architectural Review (BAR)- Old and Historic District will hold their regular monthly meeting where items of interest include review of proposed signage for District Taco and a work session to discuss the proposed development project at 0 Prince Street- Old Dominion Boat Club (Weds. 10/1 at 7:30 PM, City Hall, Council Chambers).  

 

The Alexandria Marketing Fund Coordinating Council will meet to review applications submitted in the second FY2015 round and prepare feedback for the Marketing Fund Committee. AEDP staff serves on this Coordinating Council.    
 

The Carlyle/Eisenhower East Design Review Board will hold their regular meeting where they will review a Proposed Master Plan and CDD amendment for additional floor area and building height to allow a larger office building with above grade structured parking for the Transportation Safety Administration on Block 2 of the Eisenhower East Small Area Plan(Thurs. 10/2, 7:00 PM, City Hall, Room 2000).

Art on the Avenue, a regional multicultural arts and music festival will feature 300 artists, musicians and food vendors (Sat. 10/4, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Mt. Vernon Ave, Del Ray).
