Building Shelter, Building Community...it's happening!
The magic that people can accomplish when motivated by compassion is astounding.  Carson City is experiencing this first hand though YOUR support of building a new animal shelter. You're coming together for fundraisers and events, whether it's running a 5K9, pooch plunging at the pool, enjoying a Sunday afternoon at CASI Bingo or doing a little wine tasting and auction bidding at our Woofs, Wine and Whiskers! For all of this and more, CASI thanks you!

Carson Animal Services Initiative is an all-volunteer organization raising money and awareness to help Carson City build a new animal shelter. Our current 50 year old shelter is broken...inadequate in space, drainage, ventilation, temperature control, noise levels and resources.  A sad building, yet this is where many animals find themselves.

To you, our CASI supporters, thank you for helping us build shelter. Your voices have been heard, and soon, our homeless pets will have a safe and comfortable place where they can stay until adoption day!

CASI has pledged $200,000 to Carson City to help build a new animal shelter.   We started 2015 with $105,949 towards our goal.  With donations and over $16,500  from our Woofs, Whine & Whiskers we now have a total of nearly $139,000.  Thanks to our great community for supporting our goal in building a safe and modern shelter for our homeless animals.

CASI Bingo
Join us once a month for our CASI Bingo at the Senior Center.
Bingo is the first Sunday of the month except for holidays.  Hope to see you at our next bingo on May 3, 2014.  Doors open at 11:30!

Promoting healthy lifestyles

Pets, and dogs in particular, can help promote physical activity simply by their need for exercise and their desire to play. Some studies have reported higher levels of physical activity in children from families with dogs.  Research has also shown that pregnant mothers who own a dog are more likely to meet national guidelines for physical activity through walking their dog.
 
For people who enjoy animals, and especially for those with limited social support, relationships with dogs and cats can help them cope better with stress.  Sharing the ups and downs of life with a pet can help people stay happier and healthier.

Athena is very mellow and very sweet. She is a pointer mix who is still a puppy at around a year old! She is patient and a volunteer favorite. 

She is highly trainable and would be great with other dogs.  
She walks like an angel on leash and loves people.  She's a diamond in the "ruff".
