Tampa Bay Times: Tony Holloway sworn in as St. Petersburg's new police chief

Tony Holloway was officially installed Wednesday as the city's new police chief.

Judge Morris Silberman administered the oath of office to Holloway, 52, at an 11 a.m. ceremony at Fox Hall at Eckerd College, the new chief's alma mater.

"Chief Holloway is a leader, and he knows what needs to be done, and he knows how to do it," Mayor Rick Kriseman said. "I'm confident that he will return this department to the prominence it once had. It's time for a change, so let's let the change begin, and let's get this chief sworn in."

As police officers, elected officials and community leaders looked on, Anthony Holloway officially became St. Petersburg's police chief Wednesday morning.

"I feel like a rookie, starting all over, after taking that oath," Holloway said.

Holloway's wife, attorney Andra Dreyfus, pinned on his badge after he was sworn in by Judge Morris Silberman of Florida's 2nd District Court of Appeal during a ceremony at Eckerd College's Fox Hall.

Tampa Bay Times Editorial: Kriseman puts city spending in the sunshine

In a democracy, taxpayers should always be able to follow the money. That's particularly true when it comes to how local government decides which private groups get public dollars. For the second time in recent months, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman is promising to upend the status quo at City Hall and demand more transparency in money matters. That's a good thing.
