LEVEL BEST BOOKS EDITORS ANNOUNCE NEW ANTHOLOGY WILL BE THEIR LAST

Group Hopes to Pass the Torch to New Team

Today the current editors at Level Best Books, Mark Ammons, Katherine Fast, Barbara Ross and Leslie Wheeler announced that next autumn's anthology, Best New England Crime Stories 2016: Red Dawn, will be their last as an editorial team.

"We'll publish a stunning new anthology in November, 2015 as planned," said co-editor, award-winning writer and ace production designer Katherine Fast. "Then it's our hope that a new and energetic team will step up to continue this New England tradition."

Important Notes from the Editors
  • We absolutely will publish the new edition, titled Red Dawn, and release it at the 2015 New England Crime Bake. We hope many of you are hard at work on your submissions.
  • We would love to see Level Best Books continue. We'd be happy to work with a new group of editors to help them understand this ever-changing business, just as the previous editors, Kate Flora, Ruth McCarty and Susan Oleksiw, so generously worked with us.

If you know of individuals or groups who might have a viable interest, please feel free to forward this information to them. The Level Best editors can be reached at [email protected].

Congratulations to Rogue Wave Authors

In other news, we were thrilled with the announcement that Rogue Wave author Kathy Lynn Emerson has been nominated for an Agatha Award for Best Short Story for "The Blessing Witch." Congratulations, Kathy Lynn!

And, two stories in Rogue Wave have been short-listed for Derringer Awards. "A Friend in Brown," by Mary E. Stibal is a finalist for Best Short Story and "The Missing Money," by James T. Shannon has been nominated for Best Long Story. Congratulations, Mary and Jim!

"ROGUE WAVE, 29 short stories by New England authors, will satisfy your craving for crime fiction..."

Thank You

We won't say our good-byes yet, as we'll be around for awhile, but we do want to say thank you. All four editors heartily agree with Leslie Wheeler's statement at the end of the press release.

"Editing the Level Best anthologies has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life in fiction," said co-editor Leslie Wheeler, multi-published author of non-fiction along with the Miranda Lewis "living history" mysteries. "I love working with writers across the spectrum from famous names to first publications. So many of our first pubs have gone on to success in the mystery field. Nurturing them is what makes me proudest of all."

Sincerely,

Mark Ammons, Katherine Fast, Barbara Ross & Leslie Wheeler
