Merry March!

"St. Patrick's Day is here, you see.
We'll pick some shamrocks, one, two, three.
We'll count the leaves and look them over,
And maybe find a four-leafed clover.
I'll sew green buttons on my vest,
Green for St. Patrick is the best.
I'll wear a green hat, very high,
And dance a jig--at least I'll try!"

Spring will be here before we know it!!

Have a Marvelous March!

Self Harm Awareness Month
Self Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) occurs on March 1st every year, and has done so for sixteen years or more. SIAD is an international event that is recognized across the globe. O n this day, and in the weeks leading up to it, some people choose to be more open about their own  self-harm.

A wareness organizations make special efforts to raise awareness about self-harm and self-injury. Some people wear an orange  awareness ribbon , write "LOVE" on their arms, draw a butterfly on their wrists in awareness of the "Butterfly Project"  or wear beaded bracelet to encourage awareness of self-harm.

The goal of the people who observe SIAD is to break down the common stereotypes surrounding self-harm and to educate medical professionals about the condition.

Current Programming

We have been very busy here at the Smithtown Youth Bureau.

Currently, we are providing social emotional groups at Hauppauge HS during the school day.  We also have been helping the Hauppauge Alliance start their Unwind Wednesday Campaign Programs.  Our Art Expression and Study Skills programs are running throughout the rest of the year every other Wednesday after school from 2:45-3:45.

William T. Rogers M.S., Great Hollow Hills M.S. and Accompsett M.S. are running our Babysitting Skills Training for the next 7 weeks.

Nesaquake M.S. is running our Leadership Development Program for the next 4 weeks.

The Town-wide Art Contest projects have been displayed at the Nesconset Branch of the Smithtown Library. Good luck to all that participated!!

Presently, in development is a  family communication program for middle and high school families called, "Family Talk."

We are still actively meeting with all of the schools throughout Smithtown, Hauppauge, Commack, and Kings Park to bring programming to our youth during and after school hours. Keep a look out on our website and in the backpacks of your kids as well!

To run any programming for outside groups, please email [email protected] or call (631) 360-7595.
