Morning Yoga for Beginners - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be having their Morning Yoga for Beginners on Saturday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. Participants can learn the basics or pick up new pointers from an experienced instructor.  Yoga mats will be provided if needed.  The class is 1 hour and will be held in Meeting rooms A/B.  The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  

 

Be Proud Be Responsible Workshop - The Westland Youth Assistance Program and Taylor Teen Health Center is hosting a "Be Proud! Be Responsible!" workshop for youth.  Be Proud! Be Responsible! is a pregnancy and HIV/AIDS prevention program for adolescent youth ages 12-18.  It is interactive, fun and most importantly, it works.  The workshop will take place on Saturday, November 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey. All participants will get a free snack in the morning, free lunch and free prizes. For more information or to register, please call the Westand Youth Assistance Program at (734)467-7904.   

 

Wayne County Lightfest - The Wayne County Lightfest will be open Thursday, November 20 through December 31 from 7-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6-10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.  Visitors enter Lightfest at Hines Drive and Merriman Road in Westland and exit onto Warren Avenue dear Telegraph.  The address for the Lightfest is 7651 Merriman Road in Westland.  The fee is $5 per vehicle to enter.  Lightfest features more than 47 giant animated holiday themed displays.  Don't forget to visit Santa's Workshop at Warrendale Park at the end of the Lightfest drive.  Santa will be there starting November 26 until December 23, concurrent with the Lightfest hours of operation.  Children can bring letters to Santa to place in a giant mailbox to mail their letters.  Toy Night Tuesdays are November 25, December 2, 9 and 16.  On these nights, the community is invited to bring a new, unwrapped tow in lieu of the $5 vehicle fee.  Toys will be dontaed to the Wayne County Family Center.

 

City Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday - All City buildings will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.  Trash collection will not take place on Thursday, November 27 and will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.  All city office buildings will re-open on Monday, December 1.

 

Small Business Saturday - Interested in gettting your hands on gift cards to local businesses?  Mayor Wild will be handing out gift cards at local businesses in order to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday, on Saturday, November 29.  To meet up with Mayor Wild and enter the raffle to win gift cards you can show up at the following locations:

 

-12 pm - Leo's Coney Island, 36595 Warren Rd.

-12:30 pm - Arcade Cuts, 34700 Warren Rd.

-1:15 pm - Sarandas, 35135 Warren Rd.

-2 pm - Tim Horton's, 7126 N. Wayne Rd.

-2:30 pm - Ashley's, 7525 N. Wayne Rd.

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

 

Save the Date - Westland Holiday Celebration - Join the City of Westland Wednesday, December 3 for the City's Tree Lighting Ceremony with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus! The ceremony will be held at the old City Hall, 36601 Ford Rd, at 5:30 pm. Following the Tree Lighting, families and children are invited to head over to the New City Hall, 36300 Warren Rd. for cookies, hot cocoa, and a chance to tell Santa what you want for Christmas! The holiday cheer at the New City Hall will begin at 6:30 pm.  Children are invited to bring their letters to Santa and put them in Santa's Mailbox. Santa will take the letters back to the North Pole with him when he returns home.  At the Westland Holiday Celebration the City will be accepting non-perishable food items and toys to be donated to the Westland Goodfellows.  Collected items will be distributed this holiday season, and all items will go to families within the City of Westland.
