Leap into Lincoln
Tuesday, February 17, 2015
9:00 a.m. (morning session)
or
12:00 p.m. (afternoon session)
Admission: FREE* Space is limited to 500 per session.
* This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and with funding from the Springfield Area Arts Council.
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum 212 N. Sixth St., Springfield, IL 62701
Leap into Lincoln takes some of the best aspects of our previous outreach program, Dance in Illinois, and wraps it into a full morning (or afternoon) of immersive educational experiences. SBC and ALPLM are collaborating on this project to give the students a unique way to connect with the people, events and dances from Lincon's era and make them real. Leap into Lincoln is an opportunity for fourth and fifth grade students to experience, firsthand, the various styles of dance in Abraham Lincoln's lifetime.
The students will have the opportunity to watch the Springfield Ballet Company perform a variety of dance styles from 1809 to 1865, including segments of ballets from the Romantic era (Giselle, La Sylphide and Pas de Quatre), stately court dances, and American folk dances (reels, jigs, square dance and African slave dance).
Space for this unique educational experience is VERY LIMITED at 500 students and chaperones per session. Our morning session is almost full (only 60 spots available), but our afternoon session still has plenty of room. If you would like to be a part of this event, please send in your reservation form ASAP!
Visit our website HERE for additional information and for a school reservation form.

SBC's Girl Scouts Workshop
Saturday, March 28, 2015 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Cost of Workshop: $20 per participant
Workshop Location: Hoogland Center for the Arts 420 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL 62701
Swan Lake Performance Location: Sangamon Auditorium (April 18 & 19, 2015)
Registration will close on Monday, March 16, 2015, or when we reach a capacity of 250 participants.
The SBC is proud to host a Girl Scouts Workshop for Daisy Girl Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts troops in the Central Illinois Council. Through an interactive movement class and by attending a live dance performance in a professional theater, Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Brownie Dancer Badge, and Daisy Girl Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts can earn a dance fun patch. Badges and patches can be purchased at the Trefoil Boutique.
This unique program brings the scouts into the SBC's rehearsal studio and introduces them to variety of dance styles. Using a hands-on format, Artistic Director Julie Ratz, Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell, and current SBC dancers teach scouts the basic movement elements of ballet, modern, tap and jazz. They also discuss costuming, dancer training, performance preparation, terminology, history and the technical elements of a dance performance. The interactive workshop explores the dynamics of dance from line and design, to rhythm, musicality, emotion, story line and pantomime. Scouts also learn about appropriate audience behavior and what to expect when they attend a live performance!
For additional information and a registration form, visit our website HERE.
