Good News Update 112                                    16 October 2014

Come to the National Prayer Breakfast!

Dear

The upcoming  National Prayer Breakfast is a significant event in the Australian Parliamentary Year. Since 1982 it has been a unique forum for our leaders in government and different sectors of Australian society.  It is a time for them to come together to seek the wisdom and counsel of God and to pray for our nation and for one another.

In this Good News Update we want to encourage you to take part in this strategic event in the life of our nation.

The National Prayer Breakfast is hosted by the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship and takes place in the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra.  (This has been the venue since New Parliament House was opened in 1988 when 50,000 Christians who attended the National Gathering surrounded Parliament House in prayer).

This year the National Prayer Breakfast will be held on Monday 27 October 2014 starting at 7 AM

In support of the National Prayer Breakfast is a program of events which includes a Welcome Service on the Sunday evening before and a Seminar immediately following.

Here are some suggested ways for you to take part.

1. Please prayerfully consider coming yourself as there are still places available. We all have leadership roles in family, church or community. So the invitation is for all. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate first-hand in the life of our nation.  The official invitation below give steps on how to register.  But you need to be quick as registrations close on Monday 20 October 2014

2. Please encourage your Member of Parliament or Senator to attendThe National Prayer Breakfast is in the middle of two sitting weeks, so they will be in Canberra.  You might like to arrange a personal visit to their office in the next few days.  This, we believe, is an excellent way to reach out to our leaders in government. Again please note that registrations close on Monday 20 October 2014.

3. Please pray for the success of the National Prayer Breakfast.  Pray that all who attend will receive wisdom and counsel from God and be encouraged in prayer. Pray that God will use this year's National Prayer Breakfast to help fulfill His plans and purposes for Australia.  Pray for Louise Markus the Federal Member for Macquarie who is the new President of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship .

4. Please tell others about the Australian National Prayer Breakfast and encourage them to be involved in the above ways. You can use the social share buttons at the top of this email to share it on social media.

Thank you!

As we take part let us remember the instructions of the apostle Paul for the church who urged "first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we all may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness" (1 Timothy 2:1,2).

We look forward to the possibility of seeing you there!

Official Invitation from the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship

On behalf of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, we would like to invite you to join with us for the 26th Annual National Prayer Breakfast to be held on Monday 27th October 2014.

We, the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, believe that as part of our responsibility as Christian leaders of this nation it is important to unite with the Body of Christ throughout Australia and pray for our nation. To this end, since 1982, the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship has supported the Australian National Prayer Breakfast.

The Australian National Prayer Breakfast has a two-fold purpose. Firstly, it is an opportunity for us to recognise our privileges and responsibilities before God and to ask for His blessings and guidance on our nation and its leaders. Secondly, we believe that the Australian National Prayer Breakfast gives us each an opportunity to encourage and uplift one another in our faith.

We are delighted to host Dr Michael Spence, Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sydney, at this year's breakfast. Dr Spence will be sharing some of his personal insights into leadership on this occasion and we anticipate an inspiring address.
