Ida Cox Music Series
Featured This Saturday:  The Darnell Boys
As the name implies, The Darnell Boys are a bona fide family band.  Siblings Caleb, Gus, and Austin play a steadfastly authentic blend of blues, country, and other such traditional sounds, taking cues from legends like Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding to create a uniquely soulful sound.  At the heart of the music is a shared history that cannot be substituted with any amount of outsider talent.

For more information about the group, the Ida Cox Music Series, or other upcoming concerts, check out the website at www.idacoxmusicseries.com.

National Main Street Conference
Article 2:  Bring your Main Street to the Next Level

Award winners are a great place to get ideas to bring you to the next level.  This is true in business as well as Main Street Programs.  The three Great American Main Street Award winners shared how they achieved success.
  1. Harrisonburg, Virginia:  This is a college town.  Their goal was to attract a greater number of people to live downtown.  So they held a series of three downtown housing workshops for downtown property owners and developers.  They also formed the first downtown culinary district with 30 restaurants.
  2. Milledgeville, Georgia:  This town has 8,000 college students.  They formed a program called BOOST, which is a locally funded business incentive assisting small businesses and entrepreneurs with funding needs.
  3. Woodbine, Iowa:  This town has a population of 1,459 and is only 3 square blocks.  They encourage businesses to establish downtown through Anchor Projects utilizing CDBG Downtown Revitalization Grants.  They turned the old Walker Savings Bank into 13 one-bedroom apartments, with scaled rent, and 2 office suites.
