New Study Links Firefighters, Increased Risk for Cancer

 

Fire chiefs believe fires are even more deadly now. They're fueled not just by wood, but by plastics, primarily synthetic materials that burn hotter and produce very toxic smoke. Exposure at the scene and all of the soot and caked on carcinogens on their gear, worn over and over again, are quietly killing firefighters.

In 2015, OSHA intends to issue final rules on confined spaces in constructionslips, trips and falls; and improving tracking of workplace injuries and illnessesProposed rules on eye and face protection, updates to construction standards, and clarification of employers' duty to make and maintain records are expected by the end of the year.

Democrats Introduce Legislation to Improve Black Lung Benefits Program

 

"Our legislation aims to right that wrong by helping miners obtain unbiased medical evidence, adequate representation and up-to-date benefit payments," the Democrats states in a press release.

West Virginia Lawmakers Examining Oil and Gas Worker Safety

 

As Marcellus Shale drilling activity continues to increase in West Virginia, some state lawmakers are beginning to examine worker safety.

IPPE Offers Free Educational Programs to Attendees

 

The programs will cover a wide array of education sessions on pressing meat and poultry issues, including food safety, worker safety, dietary guidelines, new products and export and international issues.
