Welcome, CCS families, to the first "Sam's Spotlight!" The purpose is to communicate the noteworthy accomplishments of our students and staff, so we can celebrate as a CCS family.
This publication is solely dependent upon receiving these news items from CCS staff, students, or parents.

 Ronald McDonald House Receives CCS Students' Artwork
CCS art students, Sarah Bennett and Dylan Graves, worked over the summer with ArtWorks. ArtWorks partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati to complete the third phase of a Room by Room project. The exhibit featured a selection of 33 works created over the summer through art-based community engagement workshops. Sarah and Dylan were two of 12 youth apprentices. Their works of art will remain featured in the guest bedrooms and corridors in hopes to serve as a source of comfort and support for families staying there.

 CCS Freshmen Raise Money for ALS!
The freshman class decided to do a car wash at a local Walgreens to raise money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease). ALS has received much press lately due to the popular "ice bucket challenge." For the challenge, typically one would avoid a bucket of ice water being dumped over their head if they donated money to ALS. The CCS freshmen decided to fulfill their ice bucket challenges on site, yet wanted to raise money for the cause as well. $150 was raised!

 Elementary 4th-6th Grades Celebrate an Anniversary!
Our 4th - 6th graders celebrated the 100th anniversary of the extinction of the passenger pigeon. Throughout the entire week, students associated this extinction's effect on the world. They learned about the passenger pigeon's contributions, about how it's extinction affected our environment, and even made origami pigeons in art class!

Samson Kitenda Heads to Australia!
Samson Kitenda, CCS 8th grader, is a member of the Cincinnati Boychoir, and is headed to Sydney, Australia to perform. Samson has also been asked to join our CCS Senior High Choir. Please keep singing, Samson!
The Boychoir performs regularly with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and May Festival Chorus, and has built artistic partnerships with many local, regional and international choirs. They performed at the World Choir Games, and have been the subject of a thirty-minute special on WCET, Cincinnati's public television station.

 CCS Students Named MVC Athletes of the Week!
Owen Hallbach, sophomore, varsity golf team: Owen has been the Medalist in the past four matches, averaging 40.25 over this span. Specifically, against CCD Owen shot a 41, Middletown Christian he shot a 42, Reading he shot a personal-best 2-over par 38, and most recently against Summit Country Day he shot a 40.
Hannah Julian, senior, varsity girls' soccer team: Hannah had four goals and two assists to help the Lady Cougars' soccer squad begin the season with a 2-0 record.
David Higgins, sophomore,varsity cross country team: David set a personal record at the Moeller Primetime Invitational despite difficult heat and humidity. He was the sixth overall finisher among Division II-III athletes with a time of 18:27.
Kristina Lail, Senior, Volleyball: Kristina led the Lady Cougars with nine kills on Tuesday against Colerain. Kristina has 26 kills so far this year and continues to be the quiet leader on the team with a big heart. This middle hitter led the team with seven aces against Seven Hills on Thursday.
