Ideas for Small Businesses
Resources for Promoting
the "Shop Local" Idea

One of the most interesting things we learned from October's Wine Stroll is that lots of area residents habitually pass by shops in town without ever stopping in to see what they are about.   The lure of a taste of wine changed that - and many strollers remarked that they were pleasantly surprised now that they finally stopped in.

There is a great resource for promoting the idea of patronizing local businesses.
It is the American Independent Business Alliance (Amiba), and they have posters, stickers, and buttons available.

Give the Chamber your feedback on working with these materials. Email bob@fairfaxchamberca.com.

Local Scam Alert

One of our local businesses got scammed a few weeks ago. The scam works like this:
A phone call comes in from "PG&E Billing" indicating that power will be turned off in one or two hours because of your unpaid utility bill.
BUT ... if you can get a money order or cashier check for the amount immediately before the technician arrives, the "PG&E" rep will come pick it up and your power will stay on.
This works sometimes if you happen to know that you are late with your paying your bill, and the scamming caller is convincing.  So, beware!
