Your 2015 SHRM Maine State Council

Greetings Maine HR!

We have been starting to see signs of spring and I couldn't be more excited! Despite the weather, 2015 is an exciting year for MESHRM!

All members of the Maine State Council started 2015 with bells on. We just recently had our first in-person council meeting and it was a huge success. We have such a great group of fabulous leaders dedicated to our profession and the beautiful state of Maine. One of our big focuses this year is creating the council's mission and vision and communicating to Maine HR who we are and what we do. We are well on our way to a successful completion of this and have a committee currently working on finalizing our work.

One of the first tasks completed this year was the creation of our new logo. I am extremely excited about it! The concept around the image is the different SHRM Chapters and HR professionals coming together across this lovely state to form a strong network of HR professionals.
Speaking of this network, many of you reading this are probably members of one of the six local chapters or the Diversity Hiring Coalition or the Maine Society for Healthcare Human Resources but have you considered being a volunteer leader? Please take a minute to review our website and look around. If you click on the About Us tab, you will find contact info for all of us. I can speak personally about the value of volunteering on both the Chapter and State level and the connections and friends that I have met because of these roles will stay with me for the rest of my life. Who better to spend some of your time with than fellow HR Professionals? I can't think of many people that are any more fun than us! For those of you who are currently or have been volunteer leaders - THANK YOU! We are all so busy in both our personal and professional lives and your commitment to your profession and this state is appreciated and valued.

We are currently looking for someone to join us on the State Council to Co-Chair the Best Places to Work Program as we will have an opening in 2016. We would love to find a perfect match as soon as possible so that our new member can job shadow this year to be best prepared for their role in 2016. Please contact me if you would like to learn more.

If you are not familiar with MESHRM or our Chapters, please take a few minutes to visit our website  and look around. You can also find links to all of the Chapters, the DHC and MSHHRA.

MESHRM plans to be very visible at the 20th Annual Maine HR Convention at the Samoset. Please visit us at our booth! Whether you are in a chapter, or not, we would love to connect with you! Not to mention - we plan to have some prizes and who doesn't love prizes?

If you haven't made a donation to the Silent Auction that benefits the SHRM Foundation and MESHRM, please do. There is still plenty of time and I would love for us to have a record-breaking year.

If you have any ideas on how MESHRM can better assist the state, a chapter, or you - please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you in May at the conference!

Best regards,
Marcia Benner
Director, Maine SHRM State Council 2015-2016
