LIBRARY FRIENDS:  SARI SIEGEL
BOOKSTORE VOLUNTEER

Boca Raton Public Library
Boca Raton, FL  - MEET  Sari Siegel, volunteer, Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library bookstore, downtown Boca Raton Public Library

Q:  Have long have you been volunteering with the Friends?

A:   I have been volunteering with the Friends bookstore since October 2013. I am originally from Ohio, and have lived in Boca Raton for about 12 years now.   I became interested in helping at the bookstore when I was referred by a friend who has been a longtime library member. I have volunteered elsewhere as well to engage with our community. I helped at an animal shelter to walk, clean and feed the animals, and currently I also volunteer helping to hand out food at soup kitchens.   I believe all of the volunteers that give their time to the library and elsewhere are our community's biggest resource and asset.  We could all benefit from taking the time to get to know one another and gain a broader sense of empathy and strength for each other.

Q: What's your favorite thing about volunteering at the bookstore?

A:   My favorite thing about volunteering at the library bookstore is getting to know the other people who volunteer. I enjoy hearing about their life experiences and appreciate their words of wisdom. I am always amazed by their book sense too!  Being the innately organized person I am, I enjoy sorting the books and finding just the right spot for them in the store.

Q:  What are your favorite books that the bookstore sells and why?

A:   My favorite books that the store sells are the classics. Having read many of them years ago, it has been wonderful re-reading them again while having a different perspective on life. Some of the classic items we are currently stocking in the bookstore are works by Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Arthur Conan Doyle, Elie Wiesel, and Henry Miller.

Q: What is something people might not know about you?

A: Something special about me that people don't know is I own enough books to have my own bookstore! Also, I am the youngest of five children and have three young children of my own!
