LIBRARY FRIENDS:  SALLY MONBLEAU
BOOKSTORE VOLUNTEER

Boca Raton Public Library
Boca Raton, FL  - MEET  Sally Monbleau, volunteer, Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library bookstore, downtown Boca Raton Public Library

Q:  Have long have you been volunteering with the Friends?

A:   I have been volunteering with the Friends for almost a year.  I knew the new library had a used bookstore, and since I love books and was looking for a venue to volunteer, I joined the Friends and trained for the store. Although I now reside in Deerfield Beach, I lived in Boca Raton for twenty years, and most of my friends and activities are here. I work at the store about one day a week and help greet and sign in guests at Friends events on Sundays.

Q: What's your favorite thing about volunteering at the bookstore?

A:   My favorite duties in the store are greeting the customers, cleaning the shelves & updating the books.  I'm in charge of the Sports section, as well as the section on Diet, Health, & Exercise.  I love meeting many types of people from all walks of life and cultures, especially since as a teenager, I lived in a very small town of 600 people in New Hampshire  - there were only 17 students in my high school graduating class, where I went to school in a one-room schoolhouse!

Q:  What are your favorite books that the bookstore sells and why?

A:   My reading interests are in the areas of history, politics, art and, mostly especially, medicine.   I worked in the medical field for many years, as a medical technologist at New England Medical Center in Boston, and Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey, where I was also a teaching supervisor.  Here in Boca Raton, I worked at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and in home health care for 19 years.

Q: What is something people might not know about you?

A:  After graduating high school with a desire to broaden my horizons, I went out West and worked on a Dude Ranch, following the Rodeo Circuit around the Northwest, and camping in national parks.  I will never forget that experience!

Dixieland Jazz is also a passion.  I worked the jazz festivals around the West for 12 years and enjoyed cruises with some of the bands.  I even found time somehow to raise 5 children!
