Welcome to the new Children's Corner!  We will be sending a monthly newsletter informing patrons of upcoming programs and activities for Children and their Families. 
Summer Reading Has Begun!!

Come to the library with your school summer reading list to get your books and sign up for our summer reading program!   Then, once you read your books, bring your reading log into the library every week for a chance to spin the big wheel to get tickets for a raffle!  For more information, click here for our website.

Free Summer Lunches

Every Weekday in the Summer
12:45 pm - 1:15 pm

Free summer lunches for kids and teens 18 and under in the Children's Room.

 

Free meals are available for kids and teens all summer across Connecticut.

Lunchtime Craft
Every Weekday in the Summer
1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

 

Lunchtime crafting fun each weekday from 1:00 pm- 1:30 pm in the Children's Room. Each week will feature a different craft which will be repeated Monday through Friday. These daily programs are free and all materials will be provided. No registration is required.      

Every Monday in July - DPNC Science Series
10:30 am - 11:15 am

 

The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center presents a series of six summer programs at the library offering hands-on fun and learning for aspiring young scientists.  

 

 

 

Every Thursday in July - The Art Experiment

Each week, we will be experimenting with color, texture, light and shadow.  Come make "trash" art, "found" art, "sound" art and more!  Children should be able to use scissors independently or can work with a parent's assistance. This program is free and no registration is required, but please call ahead with groups of 6 or more so we can be sure to have plenty of supplies on hand.    

Tuesday, July 1 - International Joke Day
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm  

 

Celebrate International Joke Day with some silly Mad Lib Fun. Check out some joke books and practice delivering a punchline!

 

 

 

 

Wednesday, July 2 - World UFO Day
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm  

 

Read stories about aliens and alien abduction! Create your own alien spaceship! All ages and no registration required.

 

 

Thursday, July 3 - Compliment Your Mirror Day
10:00 am - 5:00 pm  

 

Come and visit our Self-Portrait Station! Draw a self-portrait or just look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment! Add it to the compliment jar and learn what others have to say about their own reflection.

 

 

Monday, July 7 - Chocolate Day
11:00 am - 1:00 pm  

 

Watch "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" in the Community Room. Chocolate will be served. All ages and no registration required.

 

 

Wednesday, July 9 - Sugar Cookie Day!  Decorate a Cookie!
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm  

 

It's Sugar Cookie Day! Get creative and decorate a delicious sugar cookie with icing and sprinkles of your choice.

 

Monday, July 14 - Bastille Day
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm  

 

Ooh la la! Learn about French culture today in the Children's Room. Wear a beret to the library and check out some books about France and children's books by French Authors. Make a French flag and share a baguette and some cheese. Free and no registration required.

 

Wednesday, July 16 - Frozen Sing-A-Long
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm  

 

Come sing with us and enjoy Anna & Elsa's favorite snack!

 

Free and open to all.


 

Monday, July 21 - National Junk Food Day
10:00 am - 7:00 pm  

 

No, we are not serving junk food! Come see a visual representation of kids' snacks and how much sugar they really contain. Display in the Children's Room.

 

 

 

Monday, July 21 - Books to Movie - A Wrinkle In Time
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm  

 

Join us to watch a movie based on the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Rated PG
128 Minutes

 

 

 

Thursday, July 24 - Amelia Earhart Day
10:00 pm - 5:00 pm  

 

Check out a book on this famous aviator and retrace her last flight on a map!

 

 

 

Friday, July 25 & Saturday, July 26 - Teddy Bear Sleepover
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm  

 

Drop off your teddy bear or favorite stuff animal to spend the night at the library!  Come back the next morning, Saturday, July 26 at 10:00 am for breakfast and find out all the exciting things he or she did.

 

 

Saturday, July 26 - Aunt Or Uncle Day
11:00 am - 12:00 pm  

 

Hey kids! Bring your Aunt or Uncle to the library to read stories and check out some books together. Write a letter to your favorite Aunt or Uncle and tell them why they are so special.
