Native American History - Wayne County Parks is offering a series of 90 minute local history presentations on select Saturdays throughout the year. For ages 12 and up, all programs are held at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center in Westland.

Native American History Part I: Prehistoric Era
The story of the earliest days of human history in North America will be presented, including some of the earliest cultures in Michigan the Copper Culture and Hopewell mound builders. Advance registration and prepayment is required. The program fee is $2.00 per adult for Wayne County residents and $3.00 for out-of-county residents. The Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail, Westland, MI 48185.
Daylight Saving Time - Residents are reminded that Daylight Savings Time is Sunday, March 8. Don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour. We are one step closer to spring!

-The Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) will meet on Tuesday, March 10 at 8:00 a.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
-There will be a meeting of the Civil Service Commission on Wednesday, March 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
Buddy Up Program - The last day to register for the Buddy Up Program in Tuesday, March 10. This year will mark the third year Westland has offered this program created by Mayor Wild. Allen "Buddy" Shuh, a contestant from season 13 of NBC's "Biggest Loser", will present his "Buddy Up" program asking everyone to join together and get healthy. The official Kick-Off will be on Friday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m.and the first day of the program will be on Saturday, March 14 at 9:00 a.m.
Friday Night Dinner and a Movie - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway, will be holding its Friday Night Dinner and a Movie on Friday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. Each week the library will show recently released DVD's with an emphasis on award winners and nominees as well as book-to-movie releases. This week's movie is "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (Rated R) which is about the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the first and second World Wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. Dinner will also be provided this week. The movie will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back. Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents. The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident. Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop and skates are available to rent. The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
Save the Date for Hockey Night in Westland - Mayor William R. Wild along with his Westland Wild Wings, are once again getting ready to lace up their skates for the 6th Annual Red Wing Alumni Charity Hockey game. The event will be held on ice on Friday, March 20 at the Mike Modano Ice Arena located at 6210 N. Wildwood in Westland. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7:00 p.m. This event has turned into one of the communities most anticipated events. Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children (Kids under 3 are free). Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Mayor's office, the Mike Modano Ice arena and Wayne -Westland Federal Credit Union (500 S. Wayne Rd.). You can also Purchase your tickets online at http://westland.ticketleap.com/hockeynight/.Seating is limited so be sure to get your tickets early. There are many fun-filled activities planned for the event including "score-o" and "chuck-a-puck." There will also be several exciting raffles.
