Harley School Alumni Newsletter
September
2014
After a relatively quiet summer, school has started with a bang and the halls are bustling once again. You may recall that my last alumni newsletter in June featured not only commencement, but also Reunion weekend. Well, the Alumni Office has not been idle, as we begin this, our September issue, with one more Reunion weekend. This one was celebrated by the Classes of 1964, 1974, and 1989 as they were unable to attend our official Reunion in June.

Welcome back to another edition of The Harley School Alumni newsletter!

Alumni in Town

Filmmakers Sam Hampton '77 and Kirsten Hampton came to town in July with their documentary, "Hidden Books - The Art of Kumi Korf," winner of the CINE 2011 Golden Eagle Award for documentary short. The film was shown as part of the Memorial Art Gallery's Biennial Exhibitions. Sam, Kirsten, Kumi Korf, and musician, Robby Aceto, stayed following the viewing to answer questions from the audience. Go to www.hiddenbooksmovie.com for more information about the documentary.

Jim McCollum '52 (a non-graduate that attended Harley from 1947-1948) and his wife, Betty Grace, stopped by to take a look at the School this summer.

Sam Havens '60 was in town from Arizona and stopped by Harley to get some contact information on a classmate. He was able to connect with both his cousin, Jim Havens '60 (pictured on the left) and his friend, Barry Palum '60 (pictured on the right).

John Mills '57 stopped into School for lunch and a tour of The Commons. He was in town all the way from Australia visiting his family.

If you are local or planning to be in the Rochester area and wish to come by the School for a tour or a visit, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or (585) 442-1770 ext. 3030. If you are unable to plan your visit ahead of time, just come on in and we'll take good care of you!

Commons Speaker Series
The Harley School will be hosting a speaker series in The Commons this year. The first will be held on September 25 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Briggs Center for Civic Engagement, located on the third floor of The Commons. Chris Costanza, architect for the building project, will lead a discussion about the design of The Commons, from an architect's point of view.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending this series by
emailing me at [email protected]. I want to make sure we save a spot for our special alumni guests!

Enjoy Lunch on us!
If you live locally or are planning to be in town when school is in session, consider stopping by for lunch with members of our Senior class as they prepare to head off to college. We are looking for alumni who are willing to share their college experiences and post-college experiences with our students. We love to showcase our alumni, so please join us for a delicious Harley School lunch and an opportunity to spend time with our students.

Please email me at [email protected], if you are would like to participate.
