VINTAGE HOLIDAY
For this particular show, you'll see the vintage Halloween and Christmas decorations that our exhibitors have bought throughout the year and saved for the Fall show. The items in the photo above are a good representation of the type of vintage holiday things that will be there.

Ready to start your treasure hunt? If so, you'll find plenty of vintage things to take home from the Fall Portland Expo Antique & Collectible Show.

The items in a show filled with things that are no longer being made presents a special challenge. They don't come from a catalog and the people that bring them search high and low.  One word of advice: after every show we receive many phone calls from customers who are trying to find the booth that had (fill in the blank). We work hard to find that exhibitor only to discover that it was sold during the weekend. So the watchword is, buy it when you see it because if you don't it may go to another good home while you're thinking it over.

But if you're looking for that doll or comic book that your mom threw away, chances are you'll find it this weekend. Most people don't come with a shopping list. At least I don't. I come home with things that I'm excited to discover, take home and put in their place.

The show is entertaining and we offer special feature exhibits that are just for taking that trip down memory lane. This time the subject is Portland theaters from 1930 to 1970.

Below are just a few of the really special things that are coming to the show. Get ready to have a great time and again, take home some truly one of a kind items.

SPECIAL FEATURE
PORTLAND THEATERS 1930-1970
500 pound lion's head from the Orpheum Theater
Remember going to a Saturday matinee at one of Portland's many theaters? Sadly a  lot of them are gone. At the Antique Show, you'll be able to see many one of a kind items from the Fox, Oriental, Bob White, Mayfair, Hollywood
From a 1927 silent film starrng Prisciilla Dean
and more. This is a very special display thanks to pdxhistory.com's Mark Moore and the Architectural Heritage Center.

Burlesque and vaudeville programs, original photos of the interior of the Paramount on opening day, furniture from the Broadway, a chandelier panel from the Hollywood are among just a few of these rare, one of a kind objects.  You'll find Portland Theaters - 1930-1970 in Hall E, Row I, 17-19 and 46-48.

A FEW SPECIAL ITEMS COMING TO THE SHOW
Lionel Lewis joined our show in July and continues to bring items that are not often found so when I asked him what he was bringing to the show, he mentioned two things that are pretty cool. To the left is a close up photo of the detail of a rare 1920's Egyptian Revival cigar stand. The base and handle is cast iron , brass tray, with solid aluminum Egyptian figure. The handle is in Art Nouveau style, which helps date the piece. It stands about 26" tall. The tray is about 12" in diameter.

The stoneware whiskey jug is from West Virgina circa late 1880's. It is marked I. A. Garee & Co. Liquor Distillers, 10164 Market St, Wheeling W. VA.

Lionel will be bringing mostly small items, vintage jewelry, and a wide variety of antiques and mid century modern items. Lional says 'I don't specialize in any one area, just everything I can find that's good!' You'll find Lionel's booth in Hall E, on the wall in row J, Booth 22.

HAP ROWLEY'S LATEST FINDS

If you've been to many of our shows, you've probably met Hap Rowley. Hap comes from Poulsbo, WA . For an 85 year old, she has all the same enthusiasm when she finds something special of any dealer half her age. She told me that she has never seen anything like these two full size bronze whippets. They were custom cast for a customer in 1960 and weight about 150 pounds each. That doesn't daunt Hap, who does tend towards the heavy but unusual items. You'll find these outstanding pieces at her booth in Hall E. Row H, Booths 57 & 58.

RARE TRIBAL ART FROM CLARKE & CLARKE
James & Ginny Clarke, from Bellevue always bring something a little different. This time that includes

a pair of Antique Chinese Pottery Foo Lion Incense Holders. They'll also have a scarce pair of 18th Century Turkish Flintlock Horse Pistols, a 1920's Kachina depicting Policmana In an elaborate Tablita and a collection of antique and vintage Indonesian textiles. As you can tell, they deal in items that you don't normally see at an antique show that also includes estate jewelry, dolls, pop culture and the like. We're very happy that they have found a happy home at the Expo. James and Ginny can be found in Hall E, Row I, booths 36 & 37.

Dan Ryan
Dan has been a part of the Palmer/Wirfs, (now Christine Palmer) family for over 30 years. This time he's bringing he a couple of interesting items. The first is a Fireman's tool called a scaling ladder  or "pompier" ladder"  from fire engine company #23, which happens to be the same company that his dad worked at many years ago. No, he didn't inherit this, he found it!

Dan is also bringing a pair of carved figurines that once stood outside the Eagle Creek General Sore.

Another item that sadly we don't have a photo of is a 1915 salesmans sample Indiana silo. Manufactured by the Spaulding Logging Company in Salem, this piece was featured in the Salem Statesman Journal. It was originally used as a salesman's sample, it sat in the front office of the company for many years. It stands 6 feet tall and all of the descriptive writing is in gold leaf.

Dan is also bringing quite a few Maxfield Parrish prints this time. You can check out these great items in Dan's booth in Hall E. He's against the wall on the west end in booth K-6 & 7.

AUTOMOBILIA

Jim and Kaye Whitaker normally handle motion lamps, Josef figurines, tiki items and tinsel Christmas trees. My guess is that they'll have a few of those things too, but like all good antique dealers, they're able to buy what crosses their path. This time it was some great vintage automotive items. You'll find Jim & Kaye in Hall E, in Row E, Booths 30 & 31.

CONFECTIONERY ANTIQUES BRINGS

CHOCOLATE, CAKE, ICE CREAM & COOKIE MOLDS

Diane Cazelet will be doing her 30th show at the Portland Expo. Her booth is very unusual since her specialty is charming antique chocolate, ice cream, pudding and bread molds as well as hand carved cake, cookie and springerle boards. They make wonderful decorative pieces for the kitchen or breakfast nook.

She started collecting over 30 years ago and quickly became fascinated with the social history behind them, spending many hours at the library searching for any information she could find about them. At the time she was collecting only the ice cream and chocolate molds and it was very difficult to find much written material. There was no internet to turn to during those early years of collecting.   You'll find Diane's booth in Hall E, Row C, Booths 44 & 45.

WHAT'S IT WORTH?
At each of our shows, we offer an Evaluation and Identification booth. Staffed with ISA appraisers Kathleen Victor, Don Jensen, and Randy Coe. Facilitated by Karen Stockton, our crew is capable of evaluating just about anything from art to estate jewelry and everything in between. What you get is a verbal market evaluation, which means the retail value if you were to list the item on eBay or sell it at a show. The cost is $5 per item and the proceeds go to the Portland Police Sunshine Division Food Bank. The Evaluation booth is now located inside the show in Hall E, in Row H, Booths 25-27 & 54-56.
