Featured Farm - Scantic Valley Farm and their AWESOME CORN MAZE!
Farmer Nancy carries Belted Galloway calf

This week we asked Nancy Barrett from Scantic Valley Farm about what's going on at their farm this Fall! Here's a sneak peak and follow the link below to read the whole feature.

3. What's 'growing' at Scantic Valley Farm and what's in store for the fall season at your farm?

We grow a wonderful array of pumpkin varieties as well as specialty pumpkins and gourds. Our Corn Maze and pick-your-own pumpkin patch opens on September 20th so things are hopping right now getting everything into place for opening day!

Our farm offers a great family oriented fall experience. We have an 8 acre Corn Maze, which is a lot of fun for all ages, with a challenge within the trails of finding 5 hidden posts, and for littler tikes we have a Kiddie Maze. We have scenic hayrides that bring you out to the pumpkin patch and many fun games and activities in our play area, the "OK Corral". We also have some farm animals to see including donkeys, sheep and chickens.

What's really "growing" is the demand for the delicious CT Grown items that we serve at our food booth during the fall. More and more folks are digging our menu and then shopping at our General Store for some of our burgers and steaks to take home and cook themselves!

4. For folks interested in visiting your farm for the corn maze, what else can they do nearby to make a day of it?

A couple of my favorite local spots are the Collins Creamery less than a 10 minute drive to Powder Mill Road in Enfield. They make their own ice cream. Of course, I recommend the "Cow Tracks" and the "Pumpkin" flavors!

I also frequent Johnny Appleseed Farm, a pick your own orchard and farm stand on route 83 in Ellington.

Kim and Kenny Shores just expanded their farm stand; it is a wonderful place to pick fresh fruit or shop for the best in-season items.
