A Word from the President: Celebrating 7 Years!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Faustin Ntala

In 1989, I got hired freshly from the ISP (Institut Suprieur Pdagogique de Lubumbashi),a teacher training college, to teach in a newly started school, the English-Speaking School of Lubumbashi (TESOL).

My experience at TESOL gave me a great opportunity to learn about various teaching curricular. I began to develop a particular insight about teaching at elementary level and in an international environment. Mostly, I learned how different education can be, because of different pedagogical approaches and availability of resources.

In 1998, I came to the USA to specialize in elementary education at University of Indianapolis. The time I spent visiting US classrooms and student teaching was an eye opener for me.

My vision to start Waza Alliance grew from that point. I wanted to help children in the D.R. Congo access quality education. The time I have been spending teaching at the International School of Indiana, continues to reinforce my intention in pursuing the Waza mission.

In 2008, Waza Alliance was incorporated. Seven years later, Waza Alliance has reached many milestones, helping many students, teachers, schools and households achieve their dream: sending their students to school where they can actually learn.

2014 is the year where everything good that could possibly happen, did happen. Waza Alliance entered into partnership with the MMG Mining company that thrive to improve the quality of life for the communities around the mine and under its sphere of influence.

The Efroymson Family Fund has provided financial support to Waza Alliance, which increases our ability to continue to implement our mission and vision.

Waza Alliance has reached a milestone of 300 teachers participating at one time, in the summer Waza Teacher Training Seminar.

The Waza Initiative for Health in the School Environment launched in 2013 with the vision screening. This is one of the Waza programs that was recently started and has grown by leaps and bounds. To date, Waza has screened over a 1,000 students and teachers and has provided over 300 pairs of glasses.

To all, I want to say thank you for believing in the Waza mission and for supporting us.
