Saturdays in the Park - Attention Runners, Walkers, Cyclists, and Skaters: Hines Drive will be Traffic Free this Saturday, August 30, and every Saturday through September 8! Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic. Hines Drive will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Check out the Wayne County Parks website for more info, or call (734) 261-1990.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

- There will be a meeting of the Downtown Development Authority on Thursday, August 28 at 12:00 p.m. at City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

City Offices Closed for Labor Day Holiday - All City offices will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. This includes the 18th District Court and the Westland Library. Trash and recycling pick up will also be delayed one day due to the holiday.

New Trash Program - REMINDER: Starting Tuesday, September 2 you will be using your NEW trash bin for trash pick up. Your garbage day may have changed August 11. You can go to Cityofwestland.mynewbin to check what your new trash day will be.

Westland Firefighters Charity Golf Outing - The Westland Fire Department is having their 3rd Annual Charity Golf Outing on Friday, September 5 at Northville Hills Golf Club, located at 15565 Bay Hill Drive. Tickets are $125 per person and include 18 holes with cart scrambles format, range balls, skins game, men and women closest to and longest drive contests. Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the New Famers Market Pavilion, located in Cental City Park. This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public. Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening- Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.

SAVE THE DATE - The 4th Annual Westland All-American Blues, Brews, & BBQ Event is just around the corner. This year's event will be Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13. Friday the festivities kick-off at 6:00 p.m. and will be a "bike night" with reserved bike parking. On Saturday, the fun begins at 12:00 p.m. Blues, Brews, & BBQ will be held at new farmers market pavilion, located at 1901 Carlson. There will be a wide variety of delicious BBQ from local restaurants, a huge selection of craft beers from Ashley's and Blues music provided from multiple blues bands who are coming for the event. Proceeds from the event will benefit local non-profit organizations.
