CSA Program News

Join us for our 20th CSA Season!

The 2015 Season is special - we are celebrating our 20th Growing Season as a Community Supported Agriculture Farm!

Just as it is important to plan ahead to ensure continuity in the seasonal cycle of our crops, it is equally important to ensure that a healthy and stable income is secured for the farm and its employees during the slower months ahead. It is why we choose this time of the year to appeal to you, our CSA community, to renew your membership with the Farm.

CSA is, in essence, what has defined our mission as a Farm. It's a journey through the growing seasons in partnership with you, our members, where we commit to sharing both the risk and bounty inherent in growing your food. Our guiding principle has always been to maintain the intimacy and openness of the Farm to its community in order to build healthy and sustainable relationships where everyone can be inspired by a more direct connection to the land and all it represents - the plants, animals, soil, water, and the people who grow your food. As CSA members, your participation intricately involves you in the fabric of this nourishing relationship.

We thank you for your continued commitment to this Farm and support of a healthier, more resilient local food system.

Crop & Field Notes

Planting and Planning for 2015

With only 5 weeks left, our 2014 CSA Main Season is quickly drawing to a close, and with impending rains (we hope soon) the Farm is in transition mode. In anticipation of Tuesday night's rain, the farm was abuzz with activity. At 7 o'clock in the morning, our "Mudder" (high clearance tractor) was out in the field - Juan and Clemente sowing a large block of carrots, cilantro and spring onions. By mid-afternoon, most of the crew was busy packing CSA shares in the barn, however when the wind picked up and rain clouds started moving in a group of us headed out with the tractors to get the butternut squash, still curing in the field, loaded into bins and hauled into a dry storage area. The last couple of weeks a lot of energy and attention has gone into preparing the strawberry beds where next season's crop will be planted. Not a moment too soon, since the nursery called to say the first 15,000 strawberry starts were ready to pick up.
