Lights On Afterschool
Nationwide event celebrates quality afterschool programs
More than 600 children in 16 school districts rely on Southern District YMCA to provide them with a safe and engaging environment before and after school. Their parents rely on quality, affordable care with an emphasis on health, well-being and extended learning opportunities in a caring setting.
This Thursday, each of these locations will host a Lights On Afterschool event for the families in their program and spotlight YMCA School Age Child Care for school staff, teachers and public officials.
YMCA School Age Child Care focuses on the whole child: offering a daily snack that includes fresh fruit and/or vegetables; supervised homework time; club-based programs in art, literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), health and wellness; non-competitive physical activity indoors and outdoors; and free time for social development.
