UAW to Deliver Hundreds of  Holiday Food Baskets to Westland Families of NorWayne

Westland, MI -  Westland Mayor William R. Wild will team up with UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles and Councilman Bill Johnson on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to give out more than 400 holiday food baskets to families of the NorWayne Community who are in need at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.

The baskets will include:
  • A 12-14 pound turkey
  • Boxes of stuffing, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce and corn bread mix
  • Jumbo can of vegetables
  • Cake mix and cake frosting
"There is a social obligation and drastic need for giving, especially this time of the year," said UAW-Ford Vice President Jimmy Settles.  "Particularly for the holidays, we want to make sure that people are afforded a chance to eat with pride and dignity."

"We are grateful for Mr. Settles' generosity this holiday season as he comes to Westland in a charitable spirit to help a neighborhood in most need," said Mayor Wild. "Norwayne is Westland's oldest neighborhood and has the city's highest unemployment rate.

In 2013, the organization gave away nearly 20,000 food baskets in the community and this year due to the demand, the gift has grown.  To reach out to even more families, UAW-Ford decided to increase that number by 5,000 to 25,000 in 2014.
