Each month we will highlight a few resources that are on campus to help assist your student with their academic journey at FAU. Some of the resources will be directly related to assisting your student outside the classroom. Unless otherwise indicated, all resources listed in this area are open to students. HOMECOMING!!!

Homecoming is October 31-November 1 for parents.  Below is a list of events for parents:

 

October 31: 

5 p.m. Fall Family Fest, FAU Stadium: 


 
This event is a carnival type event open to all students and their families free of charge. It will include carnival rides, games, food and prizes. 


 
9 p.m. Fraternity and Sorority Stroll Off , Campus Recreation: 

Cheer on our Fraternities and Sororities as they compete in a "dance" competition against each other. Free of charge. 

 

November 1: 

4 p.m. Homecoming Parade, 
Boca Raton Campus: 

 

Watch bands, floats and golf carts as they parade around campus. Each year the parade grows so this year is sure to be the best yet.  You can also cheer for the Owl Parent Association as they roll by in their float. Free of Charge

 

After the Parade- Tailgate, Alumni Center: 

The Owl Parent Association has partnered with the Alumni Association for the tailgate again this year. 

 

7 p.m. Football vs. University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB):


 
Cheer on the Owls as they take on the Blazers.  The homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime.

9:30 p.m.(ish) After-Game Social (Pizza & Karaoke), Fairfield Inn, Boca Raton

This is a great time to cut loose, relax and enjoy the company of other FAU Parents.

Are your students looking for ways to get involved on campus 

Are you students complaining to you saying they are looking for more to do on campus? Or are they saying there is nothing to do on campus? That's just not true. What are your students interested in? We want to help students maximize their time here at FAU. Students can meet other students, learn about things that they cant find in there room or lecture halls and have fun while doing it. Student activities compliments and enhances their overall educational experience. Student involvement exposes students to a variety of social, cultural, intellectual, spiritual, recreational and governance opportunities and challenges.  Encourage your student to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities offered outside of the classroom. FAU has over 300 registered student organizations. Students can interact with other students,faculty and staff. Click the get involved link (above) to learn more information. Homecoming is a tradition of welcoming back alumni of a school. It is a tradition in many universitiescolleges, and high schools in the United States. It usually includes a host of activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets the university.The Homecoming team works hard to plan a spirit-filled week filled with traditional events like the 5k Run/Walk, Comedy Show, Fall Family Fest, Parade, ExtravanCANza, student organization competitions, Talon Awards, King & Queen crowning, and the Homecoming Concert! We encourage all students to come out and get involved in our homecoming events. Student Health 101 is an eNewsletter that is available to FAU students starting on the first day of each month. Students receive a reminder in their Student News emails and through MyFAU in the announcement section. Student Health 101 also has a newsletter with similar content available to parents (click on the above link). Please help us to remind your student to look at the eNewsletter as they will find many resources on the topics such as money management, healthy eating, physical relationships and much more.

We have a new addition that has been added to the monthly newsletter. Each month the University Advising  Services will be featured with an article in regards to Academic Success. By clicking the words "Guest Article" link above, you will be able to open the article  from the advisor. By clicking University Advising Services above you will be able to access the official website of University Advising Services.

On October 8, 2014 our office scheduled a webinar that focused on student's adjusting to a more rigorous academic life as they balance a new social life. If you missed the webinar or would like to listen again click on the link above. The purpose of the webinar is to educate parents on what they can expect after midterm grades come out and familiarize themselves with all of the resources FAU has to offer for students who might be struggling with this transition.
