Seman Violins in conjunction with First Night Evanston is proud to offer an exclusive opportunity during the day on New Year's Eve. World-renowned jazz violinist Regina Carter will join us to explore the beautiful realm of Jazz violin.
Regina Carter, the foremost jazz violinist of her generation, will be offering an intimate master class in jazz violin, improvisation, and the variety of genres she has explored in search of her personal musical traditions and as a consequence of her MacArthur Foundation "Genius" grant, awarded in 2006. The class is open to all levels of musicians and non-musicians interested in acquiring a deeper understanding of the relationship between the violin, African-American musical traditions and culture, and Ms. Carter's unique gifts within the continuum of jazz and violin in America. ROB FLAX VIOLIN WORKSHOP
 "Local boy made good" Rob Flax is back in town for the holidays. Join us on December 27th for another Jazz violin workshop from a hometown kid. One hour concert followed by a casual workshop Jazz/Swing Workshop: "Maximal Mileage from Minimal Notes [ABeg-Int] - Improvisation strategies that use rhythm to increase interest and danceability" Plan to sing, dance, tap, scat, and then play.

Rob Flax is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser, and educator from Evanston, IL, currently based in Boston, MA. He has performed locally, nationally, and internationally with groups of many different styles, including opening for such acts as B.B. King and Tower of Power. Recently he contributed violin to the soundtrack of James Franco's film As I Lay Dying. Rob frequently collaborates with dancers, including choreographer Alison Chase and improvisers Olivier Besson, Chris Aiken, and Angie Hauser. Rob is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory (M.M. 2012 - Contemporary Improvisation, Music In Education), and a staff accompanist at the Boston Conservatory.
