December 15th is the Deadline for Two DAAD Grants

December 15 is the deadline for the University Summer Course Grant and the Intensive Language Course Grant.The University Summer Course Grant provides funding to attend a broad range of 3- to 4-week summer language courses at German universities which focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Extensive extracurricular programs complement and reinforce the core material.
Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing full-time study at Canadian or US colleges or universities. There are no restrictions as to field of study, but applicants must have attained at least sophomore standing (10 full-course credits for Canadians) at the time of application.

The Intensive Language Course Grant funds applicants from North American universities, who at the time of application have attained at least sophomore standing (second-year standing in Canada), to attend 8-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany.
Please note that undergraduate students are now also eligible to apply to the Intensive Language Course Grant.

Call for Applications: DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship

Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply for scholarships funding study, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany. The goal of this program is to support study abroad in Germany and at German universities. Preference will be given to students whose projects or programs are based at and organized by a German university. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2015 (postmark date).

DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in German & European Studies

Every year, the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) awards the DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in German and European Studies in recognition of exceptional work in one of the Institute�s three major areas of research: Foreign & Domestic Policy Studies; Business & Economics; and Society, Culture & Politics. The central aim of this prize is to recognize outstanding American scholarship on Germany and encourage innovative contributions to the interdisciplinary scope of German Studies. This year�s prize will be awarded in the field of Economics.

A jury composed of several highly respected scholars in the field is charged with selecting the winner. This year�s prize carries a stipend of $5,000 and will be awarded at the Institute�s Global Leadership Award Dinner on December 15, 2014, in New York City. Previous recipients of the prize include Barry Eichengreen,
University of California, Berkeley; Jennifer Hunt, McGill University; and Caroline Fohlin, Johns Hopkins University.

Call for Applications: Leo Baeck Fellowship Program

The Leo Baeck Fellowship Program is an international fellowship program for doctoral candidates pursuing research into the history and culture of German-speaking Jewry. Every year, the program offers up to 12 junior researchers the opportunity to spend a year working on research at the location of their choice. During the
course of the year�s program the fellows get together for two seminars at which they discuss their work with eminent academics.

The program is named after Rabbi Dr. Leo Baeck (1873-1956), one of the most important personalities in German Jewry in the 20th century. The Studienstiftung runs the program in cooperation with the Leo Baeck Institute London, financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In the pilot phase from 2006-2009 the Foundation �Remembrance, Responsibility and Future�, the Robert Bosch Foundation, the Alfred Freiherr von Oppenheim Foundation and the Fritz Thyssen Foundation made this program possible.

The deadline for applications for the 2015-2016 academic year is February 1, 2015.
