Hines Park Traffic Free Saturdays - FINAL DAY - Saturday, September 27
9 am - 3:30 pm. Calling all cyclists, runners, walkers, or skaters: September 27 is the last Traffic Free Saturday in the Park! Saturdays in the park offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic. Hines Drive will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Check out the Wayne County Parks website for more info, or call (734) 261-1990: http://waynecounty.com/dps/2138.htm 

Native American Heritage Day - Saturday, September 27, 1 - 4 pm, at the Nankin Interpretive Center located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail. Join Wayne County Parks and the North American Indian Association and American Indian Health and Family Services to celebrate Michigan's first people! Due to Saturdays in the Park on September 27, Hines Drive will be closed. However, parking for Native American Heritage Day can be found by going around the barricades (at Ann Arbor Trail and Hines Drive).

Monday Madness - Westland golfers should  check out Monday Madness at the Westland Municipal Golf Course. Every Monday, noon to 5 pm, the course has a lunch and golf special: 9 Holes of Golf, Electric Cart, and food - $20 per golfer and $15 for seniors,  The golf course is located at 500 S. Merrimen.


 

Organ Donation - A Personal Story - Join the Westland Library for their event, "Organ Donation - A Personal Story" this Tuesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.  Gift of Life Ambassador Sandra Leonard will share information about organ donation, how you can help, and how her life was changed by an organ donor. In 2011, Sandra Leonard received a liver transplant.  Since her procedure, she has finished five half marathons and competed with Team Michigan in two Transplant Olympic Games. The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway. 

  

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the New Famers Market Pavilion, located in Cental City Park at 1901 Carlson.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening-   Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.

 

Friday Night Movie at the Library - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be holding its Friday Night Movie on Friday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. They will be showing "The Fault in Our Stars."  Snacks and refreshments are provided on a donation basis and there will also be trivia with small prizes handed out.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. 

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

 

17th Annual Breakfast with your Firefighters - Do you want all you can eat pancakes and an opportunity to meet your local firefighters? Come this Saturday, October 4 to the 17th Annual Breakfast with your Firefighters Event, 9 am - 12 noon at 3300 Wayne Rd. Breakfast also includes 3 sausage links, coffee, juice, or milk. Admission is just $5 for adults, and $3 for children 10 and under. For questions, contact Fire Administration at 734-722-1111.
