~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Kevin & Leslie Patterson)
Participant Parking Changes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(from Kevin Patterson)

This year's Cow Palace parking plan for participants is changing.  The parking prices haven't changed, however the Cow Palace, in order to pay for needed repairs and upgrades, has rented the entire lower parking lot beyond the "cattle pens" to Enterprise Rental Car corporation (at SFO) for fleet storage. Not the parking spaces right in front, but everything in the large lot past the "pens".

This means that all participants as well as public will be parking on the 'upper' level. In order to accommodate this change, the Cow Palace and the Dickens Fair Operations department will be providing drop off locations on the lower level, and shuttle busses (including one handicapped shuttle) will be operating extra early and late.

During workshops and rehearsals, participants may still park in front of the building as usual, however, when these spaces fill up, the only parking available will be on the upper level.

 If you have questions, please email [email protected]. More information will be provided as we get closer.

Costume Fastrack Info

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Liz Martin)
Hello, everyone, from the Dickens Costume Administrator!
This is to remind everyone how the Costume Approval / Fastrack operation works.
Costume Approval should be your next to last stop in getting your DCF form signed. If your group requires that your director must pre-approve your costumes (Fezziwiggs, Other Books) please do this before you come to costumes, or we will send you back to her/him for a signature.
All the directors have received lists of the people listed with their group.  (If they say they haven't, ask them to contact DCA).  Check with them to see if your photo was OK.  If it was, and if you are wearing the exact same costume this year, you are Fastracked, and do not need to appear in costume for Costume Approval.
If your photo was marked 'Need retake', we need to get a better picture.
If you are in a new group and have a different costume, we need to get a new picture.
If you have made visible changes to your costume, even if it's just a new shawl, we need to get a new picture.
If we don't have a photo for you (some photos have been deleted or did not get saved properly), we need to get a picture of you.
Please come to Costume Approval, in your complete costume as you intend to wear it.  "Before Opening Day, I'm going to finish up the sleeves and the apron and buy a new hat" is not a complete costume.
If you play several characters, we need to have pictures of each one.
The good news is that  there are hundreds of people on  the Fastrack list this year, so the Costume Approval line wait time should be at an all-time low!
See you at Workshops!
Casting for Costers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(from Mimi Walker

Are you an actor who is fearless (or would you like to learn to be)?  The Costermongers of Dickens Christmas Fair are known for taking terrified non-actors and turning them into enthusiastic performers.  We are looking for additional performers to join us this year at DCF 2014.

We are a very supportive company and accept both brand new/inexperienced, as well as experienced performers, all ages, all genders, all ethnicities.  We promise to help the new and stretch the experienced.  We have been described as "guerilla theater" which means we do short improvised interactions with as many patrons as possible over the course of the day, no memorizing necessary, although if it works for you we welcome it.  I can say from personal experience,  we have an absolute blast every year.

Please contact our new director Mimi Walker at [email protected] for more information or just come audition with us after the scheduled workshops in November (Costume classroom at workshops).

Mad Sal is Seeking a Few Good Men

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Laura Gregory
That's right - Mad Sal needs a couple of big, strong, handsome (you know, Sal loves handsome men!) men to act as Doormen / Bodyguards / Bouncers / House Managers. This is a paid position.
Men must be available the full run of Dickens. Must be able to interact well with both performers and guests, and not be afraid to say "No," when necessary. Will also work closely with the Stage Manager and Tech Person.
Should have previous Fair experience.
Meet Sal first day of Workshops to express interest, or email Laura (Sal) at [email protected] to let her know of your interest.
So You Would Like to Help Us Sing in the Holidays!
Saucy French Postcards Auditions - November 1st
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(from Diana Young)

The comedy hit Saucy French Postcards returns to the V&A for its tenth year running, with an ALL NEW SHOW!  And wouldn't the vicar be surprised?  This year we'll be enjoying the uplifting poetry of the Song of Solomon, and the artistic inspiration of biblical tales.  Just think - Adam and Eve, Sampson and Delilah, David and Jonathan!

Auditions are during post-workshop rehearsal time.  Specifically, we're auditioning for a young woman to take a minor speaking role as "the maid."  We're also looking for fine, muscular young fellows, and mature men with impressive and sizeable beards.  We need beautiful, brave, and heroic women.  We need innocence and experience, handmaids and harlots, and a goodly portion of King Solomon's wives and concubines.  Moreover, if you don't have a hankering to be onstage, we need men and women for stage crew, dressers and house monitors.  18 and over.

Got any questions?  Message me!  Diana Young, Directrix.   [email protected]

They need voice actors to assist with the following parts:  The Granite Lady herself-a personification of the building-(a gravel-voiced Carol Channing type), All male actors: Alfred Mullett, the original Mint architect, Benjamin Taylor, a 19th-century visitor, Guillermo Prieto, a 19th-century dignitary from Mexico, Frank Leach, the Mint Superintendent at the time of the earthquake and fire, and Joe Hammill, a Mint worker fighting the fire to save the Mint.  They're small parts, as the videos are about three minutes and seven minutes long, respectively, but it will be a fun process.  Recording will be done Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10am - 6pm at BAVC Studios on Mariposa in SF.

If you are interested in helping - and have some experience with voice acting - please contact Jeffrey Weissman <[email protected]>
