Stakeholder Listening Session: Water Research, Education, & Extension

UNL's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute will host a formal listening session with Nebraska stakeholders to learn more about their priorities for research, education and extension projects related to agricultural water quantity and quality.
University of Nebraska faculty are invited to attend this listening event to hear stakeholder feedback firsthand. Feel free to attend all or part of this session as your schedule allows. For more information, contact Jill Brown.

The University of Nebraska's spring water seminars will cover topics such as groundwater quality in Nebraska, owner responsibilities for private water wells, source water protection planning, variable rate irrigation as a means of improving agricultural water use efficiency, potential concerns over nitrates and uranium in drinking water and managing water resources for multiple benefits. Drought, or the ever-present threat of it, has had a pervasive effect on the Great Plains and its people. The 40th annual Center for Great Plains Studies Symposium, a collaboration with the National Drought Mitigation Center and the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute, will bring together scholars and scientists from a variety of disciplines to share their expertise and perspectives on the topic. Learn more.

Call for Research Papers
The Future of Food: Journal on Food, Agriculture and Society is seeking research papers for its May 2014 issue on the theme "Water for Food." This international, peer-reviewed journal is a collaborative project of the Department of Organic Food Quality and Food Culture at the University of Kassel in Germany and the Federation of German Scientists (VDW). The deadline for submission is Jan. 30. Learn more.
