It is ubiquitous, and critical to daily routines. Yet few understand how technology works, even as it becomes ever more intrinsic to how we solve business and community challenges.
Local, National Efforts Aim to Draw Girls into STEM Fields
The Spokesman-Review
Women are a workforce minority in science, technology, engineering and mathematics professions, four fields that the U.S. Department of Commerce expects to grow at twice the rate of other professions by 2018.
Washington is among a handful of states expected to have the fastest job growth in so-called STEM professions, and the need to address gender disparity is becoming even more critical.

From High School Math Teacher to U.S. Senator?
Science Insider
Amanda Curtis drew up a life plan in college that included studying biology in preparation for "spending time in the lab, working on a cure for cancer." She envisioned that her research would be interrupted by stints in the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps, its U.S. counterpart. Idealistic? Sure. But at 18, the Montana native saw that career path as a way to meld her love of science with her desire to improve the world. Then life happened.

Rockzip - Launch Your Own Highballoon to Space!

A highballoon (aka high-altitude balloon) is a big balloon, sometimes MASSIVE BIG, that floats to the edge of Space. We discovered a few years ago that highballoons are the most inexpensive way for humans to get to, and stay at, a near space environment - above 99% of the Earth's atmosphere to be exact. Balloons of all sorts have existed for centuries, and hundreds of latex weather balloons fly every day. Rockzip's new highballoon design pushes humanity toward long duration flight (soon months at float!) and is efficiently manufactured to make it accessible to everyone!
