Here's the October issue of The Ripple e-Newsletter to share with your colleagues, friends and family.

Picture yourself here on Toronto's Waterfront. Just a short walk south from Union Station.

Note: Due to road construction, if you are driving to the Waterfront please drive east of your destination before proceeding south to Queens Quay West which temporarily runs one-way west only. It's better by the water.

CANADA'S CRAFT BEER CULTURE

Toronto, Ontario is a city where it's not hard to find a unique craft brew. Over the past few years, craft brewers have been popping up from the west to the east, with each neighbourhood slowly having a brewery to call its own.

"The local movement is a good reason why the craft beer movement is doing so well," says Iain McOustra, the master brewer at Amsterdam Brewery. "People want to know where they're getting their products from, they want to know the processes, and they want to know what's involved."

With all these local beers it's no wonder craft brewers are turning to local ingredients as well. Amsterdam Brewery is Toronto's largest craft brewer, and one of the first. The company has always used Canadian raspberries in its popular summer beer Frambroise, which uses 2.2 pounds of fresh raspberries per 750 ml bottle. But about five years ago, Amsterdam started making local ingredients and local partnerships a priority. Recently, they have concentrated their efforts on their unique barrel program and have turned to the Niagara wine region for inspiration. Not only does Amsterdam flavor special brews in wine barrels, but they use wild yeast grown in the region as a central ingredient.

By working with wineries less than an hour away from the city, Amsterdam has been able to be directly involved in the process and thus their customers get to know exactly where the beer and its ingredients are coming from. Utilizing these local suppliers helps control the quality of the ingredients, and tells an important part of each beer's story.

KEEP YOUR VITALITY HIGH WITH HARBOURFRONT CHIROPRACTIC

Are you full of life? Vigorous and energetic? If you answered yes, you have vitality, the state of being strong and in good health.

Vitality is defined as exuberant physical strength or mental vigour and the capacity for the continuation of a meaningful or purposeful existence.

Your quality of life is therefore dependent upon the vitality of your nervous system. The daily decisions you make such as to eat potato chips or an apple, to drive or walk to the market and to watch a reality show or ride your bike, either build a healthier you or lead to the production of disease.

At Harbourfront Chiropractic, they are about increasing the vitality of our community one adjustment at a time. Chiropractic is an overall way of looking at the human body. It is based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The body is in essence completely controlled by the brain through its connection via the spinal cord and vast networks of nerves. When this system is not functioning at its peak, its overall performance is lacking.

So if you want to improve your vitality, call Harbourfront Chiropractic to book an appointment today.

TOP 5 REASONS TO SHOP, EAT AND PLAY LOCAL

We all live the fast-paced lifestyle, especially in the big cities, but have we forgotten to shop local? And why should we care? In fact, there is much research on this topic and we picked the TOP 5 reasons why we believe that we should all shop, play and eat local.

1. Shopping local creates jobs.
Shops in our neighbourhood create local employment and self-employment. These people in turn spend in the local community.

2. Local shops sell a wide range of great products at affordable prices.
Many people fall out of the habit of shopping locally and are then surprised by the range of products and unique gifts available.

3. Shopping local saves you money.
When you shop out of your area you add travel time and it results in a higher overall cost.

4. Shopping local retains our distinctiveness.
Independent shops create distinctive shopping experiences and stock different products.

5. Local shops value you more.
Evidence from numerous surveys show people receive better customer care and service locally. These businesses survive by their reputation and repeat business, which means you get a higher standard of service.

Read more about all of these reasons to SHOP LOCALLY here greenupgrader.com.

The Waterfront BIA neighborhood offers grocery stores, convenience stores, dry-cleaners, spas, pet stores, doctors and pharmacies... and don't forget the beautiful retail shops of Queen's Quay Terminal. Together, we are a stronger community, and we encourage everyone living and working here to take advantage of all the services offered by our members.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF CHRISTINA MEDEIROS

It is with great sadness that we share with you that Christina Medeiros, 32, passed away after a short battle with cancer on September 8, 2014. For those who weren't aware, Christina was a dedicated WBIA Board and Committee member who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies lie with her family and friends at this time.

Christina has left behind her husband Carlos to provide and care for their young children, Victoria and Dylan. Her friends and family have set up a memorial fund in honour of Christina to help in the form of monetary donations. These contributions will go towards her children's education fund (RESP) and to help Carlos with anything they may need.

The link is below, if you are interested in making a donation and please forward it on to anyone else who may want to donate: https://www.youcaring.com/christinamedeiros
