2014 Jerome Fiber Artist Project Grants

Funded by a Jerome Foundation 50th Anniversary grant, this program expands opportunities for emerging fiber artists in Minnesota. Four $4500 grants will be awarded to fiber artists to support a wide range of project activities. Information sessions will be held in October. >>MORE

Dying to use your new dyeing skills? The Shop now carries a variety of undyed yarn hanks, made entirely in the USA from Cestari Sheep & Wool Company in Virginia. Coming from a long line of Italian shepherds, owner and founder Francis Chester runs a vertical operation, with its own commercial woolen mill. Even the cotton used is grown in Virginia!

Art Speaks Library Series

This month's Art Speaks edition features the Minnesota State Button Society, whose collection is housed in Textile Center's Library. Established in 1943, the society is dedicated to the collecting and preserving of antique and collectible sewing buttons. One publications included in their collection at the Library is the now out-of-print Just Buttons Magazine, published from 1944 to 1979 by the Just Buttons Museum in Southington, Connecticut. >>More

Explore the use of cloth as text and text on cloth. Both textiles and texts are objects we cherish, study, and use to communicate with others. Using printing and stitching, participants in this workshop will compare design on the surface of cloth with developing cloth as text itself.>>More information on the lecture and workshop
