Grants and Funding Monthly Newsletter - November 2014

How Prepared Are You?

Sometimes the only thing you can control in a situation is your response...Are you ready?

Natural and man-made disasters, health threats, unexpected system failures, and sudden losses all have a common theme...they occur often without warning, and create serious jeopardy that must be addressed to protect the people and systems impacted.

Readiness yields effective response and can help save lives and property.

Communication before, during, and after is critical.

For this issue of our newsletter we are highlighting some areas to consider when thinking about your emergency management plan.

  • Size up the situation - document by taking photos. Natural Disaster or man-made (possible terrorism or crime scene)?
    • Initiate contact with personnel and responders. Evaluate the following: Is the situation still unfolding? Creating secondary risks? Evacuation needed?

  • Make initial call before you step in - call 911 and/or your resource person.
  • Start taking pictures as you respond.
