 Smoke on the Mountain a Great Success
Both blue and white casts took turns performing at the Fairfield Community Arts Center the first week of October. All performances were well-executed and extremely funny! Special kudos to Abigail Ploetz, the Stage Manager of the production. Bravo!
The Drama Department held a raffle during the weeks leading up to play week. Purchasers had a chance to win Aronoff tickets or tickets to upcoming CCS performances. $2,250 was raised by the drama students, with proceeds going toward special expenses for their upcoming spring musical. Top raffle tickets sales: Bernadette Beacham, Emma Schlake, and Hannah Smith. Also, Makenzie Theiss managed the raffle.
What's Next for CCS Drama Department?
Mark your calendars now! Excitement is already building for CCS' next spring musical, Peter Pan, taking place March 5th, 6th, and 7th at the downtown Aronoff Center, Jarson Kaplan Theater.

 Elementary Campus STEM Program in Full Swing
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math, and each year CCS offers several STEM activities for PK - 12th grades. Gina Smearsoll is our STEM Coordinator and led a huge clean water project effort at the Elementary Campus the entire month of October. Here are just a few activities that related to this campus-wide effort:
- The campus goal was to raise funds to buy four water filters to send to the village of Villa Gonzalez in the Dominican Republic Project Ma�ana. Not only was the goal met, but exceeded with SEVEN filters purchased! Seven families will now have clean water for 10 years!
- Senior High students went to the Elementary Campus to tell the younger kids about their mission trip to the Dominican Republic, showing samples of the water filters they distributed.
- Students have been learning about the importance of clean water and how unclean water affects us globally. Gina led a day of water filtration experiments with the entire Elementary Campus. Students made predictions about which water filter would work the best, and then experimented by collecting data in order to analyze how the evidence compared to their predictions.
- 4th and 5th graders spent a day at the Butler County Children's Water Festival as part of the project.
- Cub Scout Pack 912 is involved as well, currently recycling plastic pouches to raise money for a rain barrel for the CCS STEM program.
Mrs. Smearsoll is currently looking for ideas and speakers for future STEM program events.

 Junior High Boys Soccer Team Serves Meals
On October 28th, the Junior High Soccer Team joined Millville Avenue Church of God in serving a meal to those in need. There were about 170 adults and children who came to eat. About 30% of those who attended are homeless, according to Pastor Joe Clark.
Pastor Joe handed Coach Brian Welch quite a few prayer cards filled out by various individuals that night. After the event the team read the prayer requests together and prayed for them. Coach Welch said, "It really hit home with the kids and helped put things into perspective about how blessed we truly are. Giving up our time to help those less fortunate is what Christ is all about. Matthew 25:40 reveals the true meaning of the team's effort." Mrs. Judy Watson, coordinator of the event, was very thankful for their help and was amazed at how well the kids behaved and worked. "As a coach I was very proud to be a part of this group!"
Millville Avenue Church of God serves the Hamilton area in this way every Tuesday evening. They welcome help at any time.

Our Own MarDee Moon Wins Photography Honor
Evendale Cultural Arts Center hosted a Juried Photography Exhibition. It was curated by Glenn Hartong, an award winning photojournalist
with the Cincinnati Enquirer.
MarDee, our Elementary P.E. teacher and campus photographer, had two photos in the exhibit. This one received first place! MarDee says, "It's straight photography. The white background is the sunlight shining through the clear backboard. I let the highlights blow out to white."
The gallery reception was Friday, October 10th and the exhibit display ran the 10th - 12th and 19th. Unique and beautiful, MarDee!

 CCS Jazz Band Plays Public Venue
The Cincinnati Christian Jazz Band played to a grateful audience this month at the Bridgewater Falls Chick-fil-A. This special performance was part of the restaurant's Music Mondays.

 Brady Roberts Excels at the Golf State Championships
Congratulations to sophomore, Brady Roberts, on being named First-Team, All-City for Division II and III. This is the second year Brady has received First-Team honors. He is the only Division III golfer who made the list!
He also became the first individual to qualify for the State Golf Championships!
Well done, Brady!

 Elementary Campus S.L.E.W.
The entire week was devoted to helping the children grow in Christ. Extra Chapel, special sermons, inspiring worship time...all designed to encourage their love for our Lord and His Word.
Mrs. Rice's 5th graders exclaimed, "
"Oh cool! I just LOVE S.L.E.W.!" Also, "I had three favorite parts, Pastor Bob, Miss Starla, and all that they performed!"
Parents are encouraged to ask for S.L.E.W. details from their children
to help keep the fires burning!

 1st Graders Raise Funds for Smoke Alarms
Our 1st graders often minister to the City of Fairfield fire fighters by giving them special treats. The fire fighters happen to mention that they buy smoke detectors for needy families, and our 1st graders didn't hesitate to want to help!
Funds are still being collected in this effort. Mark your envelope "smoke detectors" and send to the Elementary Campus front office.

National Honor Society Takes on Veteran's Day Celebration Planning
The CCS National Honor Society has agreed to lead the planning of the Veterans Day Celebration this year. Mrs. Zeller used to coordinate the program as a volunteer, and the students happily and proudly stepped up in her stead.
Kim Stone, NHS Advisor, said proudly, "You would have been proud to hear them (the NHS officers) discuss it at our last meeting. They feel that there is great value in serving and honoring our veterans -- people who may not always get the recognition they so deserve. The students expressed that their role is not always to raise money, but to lead, organize, and honor others is whatever ways they can."
The officers decided they would like to have a theme this year from Scripture, and have chosen 1 Peter 4:10 as their theme verse - "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." They felt strongly that the opportunity to continue the Veterans Day tradition is aligned with that goal from the Word!

 Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy
CCS selected students participate in monthly Leader Labs using unique Curriculum Technology. Their faculty leader helps them gain insight and principles, then involve hundreds in their school and impact thousands in their community!

 Cub Scout Pack 912 Begins Recycle Program
CCS charters Cub Scout Pack 912. One of our scouts, Will Riegler, decided to get his Wolves and then all of our Cub Scouts involved in TerraCycle�. Since May of 2014 they have been participating in the TerraCycle� Brigade� collection programs. TerraCycle�'s goal is to eliminate typically non-recyclable waste by creating special collection and solution programs. These programs are free, and for each unit of waste collected Pack 912 will earn TerraCycle�points redeemable for upcycled products, charitable gifts, or payment to CCS. Pack 912 will be donating all of their proceeds to purchase a rain barrel for the school's STEM Program.
As of Friday, October 24, the Scouts and students at CCS have collected 3,295 juice box pouches during lunch!

 Girls' Varsity Volleyball Claims MVC Championship
Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team who claimed the 2014 MVC Scarlet Division Conference Championship! The Lady Cougars wrapped up conference play with a 12-1 record!
This conference championship is their eighth since 2006!

 David Higgins Advances to Cross Country Regional Meet
Congratulations to CCS sophomore, David Higgins, for qualifying for the Regional Cross Country Championships.
David finished 13th in the District Cross Country Race with a personal best time of 17:31! Way to go, David!

 Mrs. Gottula Honored for Student Council Service
Mrs. April Gottula, one of our Junior/Senior High Campus computer teachers was honored this month for seven years of service as Student Council Advisor.
